Just reporting back in.
I got the Audio Link adapter last Friday and all I can say is: A piece of cake. Now, keep in mind I've taken apart my fair share of head units and dashboards but what made it easy, quite honestly, was all the info on these very boards.
Total time to install and put back together was about 20 minutes.
It should be noted, however, that I didn't do a few things that are highy recommended. I didn't disconnect the battery, nor did I disconnect any of the connectors.
I just lifted out the pieces and laid them to the side. I felt around and found the connector in the back and plugged in the Audio Link adapter. While everything was still strewn about, I plugged in my iPhone and la-tee-da it all worked.
All in all it is a pretty slick device. I can control my iPhone from the steering wheel and I have an additional 1/8" mini plug should I need it in the future (after market Sat?). When the iPhone receives (or if I make) a call, the music fades out and when the call ends, the music picks up where it left off.
Pretty sweet.

Did you get your AuxMod yet? I'm still waiting for mine. They didn't send any shipping confirmation but their website says they're usually too busy to reply to e-mails daily.

Well since I've gone through TWO of Mazdaparts PIE adapter for my 2007 RX-8, I can relatively safely assert that I find the PIE adaptor UNRELIABLE.
The sound quality is fine, and I would've been very happy keeping PIE adapter, as it was what I wanted: a simple Aux-In adapter.
However, now that it has died, I've moved on to the Dice Electronics adapter, and now gain some functionality through the car's head unit, as well as remove one more cable from my car (the iPod charger).
FWIW, the Dice Electronics adapter is similarly priced to mazda's OEM option.

I bought the Mazda adapter. It's better than an FM adapter or the Neucleus POS, but it is difficult to use. I agree, the overly styled stereo head unit makes it tough. I have no idea what I would use in its place, though.

I know, I know, it's too early to tell how good the box is, but I like mine just fine. There are two ways to control the iPod:
Locked (control the ipod through the head unit; cannot use ipod itself), and iPod mode (where you can use the iPod and the head unit at the same time, though song titles are not displayed).
It's of my opinion that "locking" the iPod and using the head unit to browse through songs is an utter waste of time. I don't care about song titles that much. What I care about is true line-out connection and the ability to at least skip forward/back songs through the head unit (cannot skip songs using the steering wheel).
For me, the best way to experience the Dice unit is to control song selection through the iPod, and use the head unit to skip through songs
just my two cents. I've already put my PIE box for trade.

Got the AuxMod
Hi Guys,
I received my AuxMod and I had just finished installing it. The radio took a while to remove mainly because I had to figure out how to properly release the electrical connectors. Once the radio was out the AuxMod dropped right in. I proceeded to reconnect the radio connectors to test the AuxMod to determine if I should get the ground loop isolator or not.
Since the sources of my input consists of my PSP, my girlfriend's Ipod (eeeew.. Ipod), or any other MP3 devices, most of the time they would be running on battery power. Just as Sylfex advertised, my PSP running on battery power produces crystal clear audio throughout a sensible listening volume range. If I pause my PSP and crank the volume to MAX, I can barely hear a hiss coming from the speakers. (I hear this same hiss when I go to CD player and Max vol out)
Next I proceeded to plug my inverter into the cigarette lighter, and plugged my PSP's AC adaptor into the inverter. I then repeated the music tests on the now charging PSP with the engine off and with the engine on. When playing music at sensible volume levels the quality is still crystal clear, engine-on or off. Only when I pause the music and crank the volume to MAX, will I hear a slight buzz. But at a realistic volume 7, I cannot hear a buzz. I could not make out the slight buzz at MAX volume when the engine was running anyways..
My test conclusion is that I will not need the GLI, at least not for the way I charge my portable electrics using an inverter.
Here's a video of the engine off tests. Please excuse the music... I wanted some bass (thumps) and treble (whiney girls)...

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but here goes: the AuxMod description on the Sylfex site says, "The unit plugs into the module bay for the factory Tape & MD modules inside the Head Unit." It will work even if that bay is currently just a solid blank on my head unit, right? All I have is the 6-disc changer (and iPod module), no tape or minidisc player. I guess there just aren't enough pictures on their site for me, because I can't imagine how I would access the aux jack after it's installed.
xr8ed, would you be willing/able to take a photo of your head unit with the AuxMod installed and post it?

The aux jack is supposed to sit hidden inside the radio after the AuxMod is installed. This is why Sylfex asks you to use 3.5mm male to male cable to locate the input jack else where. You're supposed to route the cable backwards through the notch in the casting and down the center console.
I would take a recent picture of my AuxMod but I cannot do that anymore because I installed my ScanGauge where the tapedeck goes.
In my video on youtube I tried to film the AuxMod through the tapedeck opening. You can see this in the first 10 secs or so.
I have some pics of where the male to male extension cable exits, and the ScanGuage blockage taken the day of the install.

There's a car audio place in my neighborhood that I keep meaning to go to: I need to find out if they'll install something that they didn't sell me (if I pay for the install, of course), and I want to be sure I can explain exactly what I want them to do. I've been putting off ordering the AuxMod until then, but I think I might just go ahead and order one today: even if this place won't install it for me, someone will eventually!

Is it jus tme or does it seem like the 04 bose system produces hardly any bass? I have the treble turned all the way down and the bass at like +2 and I still ahve to blast it to get decent bass. I was expecting an earthquake of bass from a Bose system but I guess not...

Not to beat a dead (dying?) thread, but my AuxMod arrived a few days ago and I just made the appointment to have it installed (on the 26th). They'll remove the OEM adapter cord, too. Can't wait!

Got my AuxMod installed today: it's exactly what I wanted. The installer took out the OEM module for me, too, so I no longer have that cable in my glove box. Hmm, any opinions on whether I should try to sell it, or just throw it out? (The whole module, not just the cable. *grin*)
The best part of today's installation, though, was that I won enough $$ playing poker last night to pay for it.
