Bose Audio Systen - AUX Input?
 

Morning all, im sure you have all asked or seen this?

But does anyone know if the RX8 Bose system has a AUX input for MP3/iPods?

I have the 6 Disc Multi CD player, would this work the same?

Get the Mazda iPod adapter module.

I got the Audio Link one from the rpm store (?). It should arrive in the near future.

I don't know if you have first hand experience with the Mazda iPod adapter but it is a ball of suck, if you have more than a shuffle it is nigh impossible to navigate through the menus, the ipod controls are locked out and all you have to work with is an on screen numerical code that was designed for a robot to read. I recommend exploring the alternatives.

Yes, I have one. Yes, it's a ball of suck. Yes, I was being mean. :) I'd much rather have an auxiliary input than this $300 piece of almost useless crap.

110 (USD) for the Audio Link one (I'll know more when it arrives) Plug and play, you don't lose ipod control, the onscreen display is a little "iffy" (it shows play list number and the number of song in the play list) but you can have nine of them (playlists). It also charges the iPod and offers an additional 1/8" mini plug as well.

I think the "However" is that you can't use it with the Factory Mazda Sat radio installed

burn cd's

I was used to being able to play MP3 CDs and having an aux in: after that, even six 80-minute audio CDs don't quite cut it.

The stereo -- and crappy iPod module -- are the only things about my new '8 that disappoint me. For the last 2.5 weeks I've been distracted by just driving the car, and the Bose sound is great, but not being able to play MP3s or easily use my iPod while driving is really starting to bug me. I'm thinking about asking the dealership to take the iPod module back, swapping out my 6-disc changer for the one that plays MP3 CDs, then getting an auxiliary input kit.

When I first got my car back in '04 there was an option to have a device from Phat Noise... it was a hard drive cartridge that can be plugged into your PC (to upload MP3s) and then the cartridge plugged into a box that was installed into your trunk. It even worked with the car's head unit (to skip to the next song, displayed the MP3's ID tag information, etc). There were a few different models that had a capacity of 20GB, 40GB, and 60GB (but don't quote me on those sizes).
Not sure if they are still installing these (I believe it was over $600), but its an option if you want to go that route.

^^ Can't speak for the OP or others, of course, but I already have a $300, 30GB hard drive: my iPod. :)

LOL... right, but I did like the concept of the Phat Noise... especially since its made for the RX8's head unit.
With an iPod, the hard drive is more like to get damaged from constant car vibration... I've already ruined my 15GB iPod... I'm not going to risk my 40GB one. I KNOW I'll hear many of you that say, "well I've been using it for X amount of years and have had no problems!" and thats fine. I'll join the iPod-in-my-RX8 gang when the solid state iPods drop in price and the capacity increase.
Until then... I'll stick to burning CDs :)

If all you need is an AUX input (no iPod controls), then get this.

Just read the guide, easy to fit but wondered about routing the cable?!

You can simply route the cable to either a 3.5 mm jack that you install on the faceplate of the radio or even to the compartment underneath the front armrest. It's really easy to do.

The cost including international shipping is $69, so hardly a fortune - unless you get hit with customs or some similar fee in your country. But for something that costs 69 bucks, that's probably not the case.

did anyone get the aux mod? is it hard to install?

yeah that is what I use, and it is very simple to install

I've had my aux mod for over a year and it works great. I use it with my XM Helix radio so it gives me sat and MP3 function.

I kinda figured. When I bought my 2007 I made them throw in the iPod module with the car as a part of my purchase. I have given serious thought to pulling it out and replacing it with a Audiolink then taking the iPod "integration" module and defiling it in the most reprehensible ways possible, I don't even know what sort of depraved things it deserves, my mind isn't that dark.

Sadly I have just been burning CD's with my wonderful 160 Gig iPod essentially useless using the OEM adapter. In Fact, I think I need to just suck it up and replace the damn thing.

The stereo is really the only thing that disappointed me with the car too. The only thing I really mod in my cars is the stereo, Mazda made it a real challenge and an expensive proposition to upgrade the audio in this car.

That's what I did, too: I bought my car 24 days ago, and got the module with the purchase. They had to order it, and it was installed 3-4 days after purchase.

(And then none of the service guys knew how to use the damn thing, and at first they weren't even going to give me an instruction booklet. Sigh.)

I will be going to the dealership before I've had the module for a month and asking about the possibility of a refund/uninstall. I have no idea if I can get any money back: if not, I guess I'll leave the module installed, but I'll probably hardly ever use it. Whether I can get a refund will also determine whether I ask them to swap my 6-disc changer for an MP3 CD player. Then, when the head unit is sorted out, I plan to order an AuxMod and have someone install it for me (I'm useless with that sort of thing; even the "easy" stuff).

Hmm ... does anyone know if the OEM iPod module and AuxMod can't be installed at the same time, for some reason?
