bodyshop flooded my engine

Can you believe that? I specifically explained before leaving the car with them that you cannot kill it before warming it up. Said it couple of times. So they call me telling me they can't start it. I go there during my lunch brake it looks like the flooded it.... and they play dumb... oh we did not know... blah, blah, blah... I tell them yes you knew cause I spoke about it with the owner. So they tell me don't worry we'll get a mechanic - he'll fix it. Now somy dirtyass mechanic that fixes chevys and pontiac will be touching my baby... I told them to tow it to mazda dealership but I am sure they will not. What a bummer! And now I hear my sparkplags or cat may be damaged due to it... if they "fix" it should I take it to the dealership or what???

Did you try the de-flood procedure that is in your manual? IF that didn't work:
YOU need to call Roadside assistance and have it towed there ASAP. Let Mazda deflood it and cover the repairs under warranty.

I would NOT let some "mechanic" mess with my RX-8. That's just asking for more problems.

At this point YOU need to take matters into your own hands. Call mazda roadside assistance to get it flat-bedded to the dealership. Do NOT let these retards try to "fix it". Be empowered and take care of this yourself. If they do anything else to it, the problem will only become worse and may REALLY damage your car.

Well I would definitely do it but they did not finish working on it and the car has no bumper, lights and it seems the fender is still a "work in progress"... I told them to take it to mazda but I suspect they will try to fix it themselves before they finish the bodywork... I am almost sure my rx8 will end up in a mazda dealership but if they try to "fix it" it may need a little more than deflooding... and that's what worries me. I already miss my car... insurance put me in a "NEON" damn it.

Sorry to hear about your situation - GET IT TO MAZDA NOW !!! You can try the deflooding once or twice - yourself --- then call Mazda Assistance.

Does you car have the upgraded battery/starter/plugs?

If NOT - goes to support my position that all RX-8s should be upgraded.

If SO - I'm more concerned - the fix did not fix.

Good Luck

Mazda is not gonna care if the fenders and bumpers are missing. That does NOT affect the engine in any way nor does it prevent them from de-flooding your car.

If you've got an earlier build then they will most likely update the starter / battery. Having those bodyshop "mechanics" mess with it will not get you those upgrades. PLUS, I wonder what constitutes as "fixing it" in their mind. I'd be pretty worried.

I would have it towed to the dealership and then TOWED back to the bodyshop. (have the bodyshop pick up the tab for that second tow)

Or just wait until the body shop is done fukin it up. that way you don't have to get it towed twice. Write them a letter that they are not to attempt to fix the flood problem. They can move your car around their shop on wheel dollies. They have no business starting your car.

When I have had to leave my 8 at a body shop, I explain it to the owner then I leave a post-it note on the steering wheel letting whoever might actually drive the car know and remind them. If you work on cars all the time, I would think that it isn't something that would remain on the tip of one's thoughts.

My cousin has a body shop. They deflooded an 8 by putting it into the paint shop dryer and heating the whole car up to 160 degrees farenheit. Said that it ran great when they kicked it over which makes sense since the fuel on the plugs would vaporise better at that temp. (Personally, I think it was an idiotic thing to do but I wasn't there)

Don't worry about a shop mechanic working on your car. All they have to do is pull the plugs, clean them up and put them back in. Then again . . . maybe you should worry since they could easily put the leading and trailing plugs into the wrong ports. That would suck.

Well, best of luck.

For the future, print out a bunch of these, keep them in the glove box and stick one on the dash whenever you leave the car with a shop--any shop--Mazda included.

I made it with a little "inspiration" from Cool-Blue-Dad. (Actually, he had the original idea and words. I just did a little editing, formatting and added the logo.)

C'mon Go48, doesn't the forum Jedi get a little credit for that sign?
I was the one that mentioned slapping that Mazda logo on there...

I never had a flooding problem before. Always warmed up my rotors before shutting her down so what I am most concerned about is whether the flooding will cause any further damage. So far I had no problem with my rx8 and am enjoying it greatly. It really is an awesome car. What mazda should do is to come up with some signaling system that would detect the temp. of the engine when shut down and keep it running or at least make a computer ask whether you want to proceed with turning off the engine... you know like windows sort of when you are just about to delete the file it will ask again - rx8 should do the same. Becaues as you can see even though I was so religious about the whole thing you give it to the bodyshop and they can still **** things up even though you warn them...

Sorry, forgot about that.

When Mazda comes after me for unauthorized use of their logo, I'll be sure to mention your name.
