I can see both sides of this argument - actually, there is no blind spot but it's still deceptive because of the shape of the C-pillar. Your reference points are all thrown out, that's the real problem. You can see much more than usual in the centre mirror and so you adjust the wing mirrors out a bit further...
In defensive/advanced driving you know where all cars/bikes are anyway - ergo if you can't see them, they are in your blindspot. Advanced driving instructors in the UK occasionally ask you to list the colours of cars behind you WITHOUT LOOKING!
I always check before a lane change even if I have been watching all behind me - because for instance yesterday a bike undertook me when I was doing 105mph!
