Anybody else have a problem with the rx8 blind spot? its small - but hard to look back quickly and see whats there... that bar in the middle between the windows is hard to see past...

maybe its me?

 

I noticed that when I took the test drive. The passenger window had the sticker on it too so I couldn't see very well getting in the car for the first time. After driving mine for two days now, I have learned that my side mirrors need to be positioned perfectly if I plan on seeing what's behind me.

 

but - no matter what you see in your side mirrors - there is still a blind spot!

 

Very true. Before I was driving a Nissan Crew Cab and hardly used my mirrors. I could just glance over my shoulder. On the RX I wouldn't survive long without the mirrors, although as you say there is still a blind spot. After coming from driving the truck, all the windows just seem so small on the RX, lol.

 

If you position your side mirrors correctly there shouldn't be a blind spot. You have to set them so that there is a small amount of overlap between the side mirrors and the center mirror. This means that the side mirrors are angled way more to the outside than most people set them.

That said, I'm still not used to this mirror set up, so I avoid some left turns because I can't do a head check.

 

or, you can do like me and add one of those rounded mirrors which eliminate the blind spot, and allow you to quickly see if anything is next to you.

 

The problem I have is the shape of the mirror. The tapered end cuts off the area where I'm use to seeing cars. Now this causes a headache blind spot.

Agreed, there is no blind spot. Forget the lesson of looking over you're shoulder to check. You wont see anything. Adjust the mirrors properly, double check them and rely on them.

 

I put my 1" mirror in the lower right corner of the drivers mirror. I drive a POS van for work and these little mirrors are the best way to get rid of the blind spot.

 

The blind spot is not as bad as the positioning of the side mirrors. I find that they are in the way in some situations that block your view of oncoming traffic (like waiting at a traffic circile) I think placing up on the door/window frame ala Ferrari/Lambo would help greatly and look cool to boot!

 

What I would like is a mirror that lets me see ahead and to the right. Kind of like when you ask the passenger if you can go around on the right.

Hi All - First time post ('cause I finally have something to contribute!). My wife is the lucky daily driver of the 8 in our house (I do get to wash it on weekends though...). She had the same blind spot complaint. I fitted two external blind spot mirrors designed for a Honda Gold Wing - they don't look too bad and work great! Pics attached.... I eagerly await your comments!

 

I don't. But the blind spot in my 3G was annoying.

I went from a truck and pulling trailers to the 8 and I am used to driving with my mirrors so the blindspots are almost nonexistant to me. I positioned my mirrors where I can't see the car in the side view and i always check my mirrors while I drive. My wife hates to drive the8 because of the blind spots but she is getting used to it.

 

The seat position makes a big difference. I can look easily out the rear passenger window, because my seat is set far back. Still, the mirrors on the RX-8 are dainty. I like to set the mirrors so that I can see along the side of the car, but that's not the right position for the 8.

Side note: Another annoying blind spot is the one created behind the main rear-view mirror. It's a very large mirror compared to the windshield -- especially if you happen to have the upgrade. I'm often forced to drop my head down and to the right to see if there is any traffic off to the right.

 

I had thought that too, until I found out the rear view mirror is 2 way adjustable, it moves up/down/left/right, but also UP and down (the whole unit) so you can actually move it up near the roof and near the windsheild, and it will not be nearly as intrusive.

 

It does????? Gotta try that out when I get back to my '8' later tonight.....

yup... I drove around with the rear view mirror all the way DOWN for about two weeks before I found out it could move and moved it up. It was seriously blocking my view.

Well, I thought that sounded interesting, but I can't move mine a bit... still, I'm going to look into it. My mirror is definitely "all the way down."

Thats the solution . I prefer the wedge shaped ones which I use.

These blind spot mirrors takes some getting used to, so make sure you know what view they cover before you start relying on them if you've never used them before.
