A Bigger Rotary

Hey Just curious I was think about how small rotary engine is compared to piston engines. Well be interesting to see a rotary with bigger roatarys a bigger engine. I know this would through off the 50/50 weight balance but it would be cool see a rotary that people compared to a V-8. A whole new car that would spoke GTO and mustang on straight aways. Maybe even corvettes. LOL just thought i would get my goofy thought out there. Maybe this will be fun topic to talk about.

the RX8 is not the only car out there with a rotary.. look at the rx7s producing 400+ whp's whooping around ferrari's, vipers, vettes, whatever... you want a "bigger otary"? get a 20B or dig up a few 10k and have a shop build you a custom 4rotor. this thread fails. Failing thread + failing thread starter = IBTL.

there's been a 41 liter rotary appearently lol: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wankle_engine
scroll down to the section called "Other uses"

Edit: they actually made 2 version, 1 rotor and 2 rotor, and it's 41 liter displacement per rotor, so looks like they had a 82 liter rotary engine

Man with that in a car you would have a driver seat, wheels, engine and the rest would be a gas tank.

well... I just did the conversion on that... the 1 rotor version of that would have 10.83 gallons of displacement and the 2 rotor would have 21.66 gallons.... so you'd need an absolutely massive gas tank lol... and some of you thought our gas mileage was bad

not very practical for car aplications. RPM limiter of 1200, 1 meter diameter combustion chamber, it might ploduce a ton of power, but that bitch had to be heavy

Meh. I'm quite happy with our 654cc per rotor size. It allows for high-revability, plenty of potential for power (hey, you can always slap on another rotor or two...there are e-shafts made, or engines, for that matter)...

I think stepping up to an 800cc per rotor application would be spot-on. The combustion faces would be much larger, you would have MORE TORQUE----sure, a little more weight, but hey! Imagine a 3-rotor 800cc per rotor engine. A 24B, instead of a 20B :-D Sounds like sex! 2.4L of furious rotary power. It would rev slower, have a lower redline, but..it would be worth it.

But the problem at this point -- Mazda has put SO much R&D into this 654cc program that all of their parts are made specifically for this. Counterweights, rotor weights, bearing weights, everything has to be perfect to keep the engine from imploding. Why change to a bigger rotor, when you can just, as I said before, have an extra? :-D

LOL 41 L what do they use that for the CAT plows. Yeah a 2.4L would be sex. If they could just finded a way to reduce gas guzzling. I'm sure they would if we had bigger market for rotarys. Well thanks for the comments.

with a 24b thats like burnout at stoplight everytime on first gear lol. Same with the 20b accually! lol. IMO 24b for a nasty drag sleeper! DRAG ONLY! 20b pushing the line of street and drag! 650hp ++++ is fine for me :D. but like wha RX-8NDF said GASS GUZZLING!!!

Wink Imploding.....

Man, one guy suggests a bigger rotor and evryone starts whining about the (theoretical) gas mileage !

Maybe the rotary is not for everybody......

LOL StealthTL exactly if your worried about gas then maybe look at getting a single rotor engine :D

A 200 hp turbo 1 rotor would be better gas mileage than a 200 hp nonturbo 2 rotor. Think about that one for a while.

My weekender is a 20B-REW powered Cosmo. Thats the "biggest" rotary engine Mazda ever made for production. Talk about "torque".

224KW with 402NM of torque as standard (although you can add another 40% on with my current mods). Makes the little 13B-MSP engines in the RX-8 seem rather lacking. In fact, all this baby needs to do is squeeze around 30% throttle, get some boost happening at around 2000rpm & it roars past any RX-8 at any speed......... "Yummy"

Having said that, an RX-8 family car with auto trans is coming soon..........lol

Here is the Cosmo, with the triple rotor engine lurking within......

not much to think about, you cut the number of combustion cycles occuring in half

Yeah I would'nt mined a 20b. But all let you know how that goes when I become a millionaire. The reason I thought of the bigger rotary was because porsche use 4 cyl engine but what people dont realize is their piston are bigger than normal 4 cyls. Which mean more surface on the piston. aka a small car with a **** load power.

Wow, the guy starts a "What If" thread and you go and say something like that?

If only you could somehow understand that people like you are the reason most users don't come back to message boards.

You are the epitome of an *******.

there are more 20b's in use then you might think, all be it for aviation purposes, but some current prop planes ue 20b's

This guy uses a 20b in his home built Lanciar Airplane
