I put a sponge in the air box, to prevent flooding.

The injectors and accelerator are electrical, so when the key is off, those are off too (hence useless to push the pedal after the engine is off - on RX8 at least). The oil pump is mechanical, hence it does not care about ignition off or not - lubrication and oil pressure depends on RPM, no issues to rev when engine is off. If thinking of the oil metering pump - it rarely injects oil anyway, so it does not matter.
Does it help anything? Probably not, but it cannot hurt either, so I consider this "prevention." Just like premix and many other quirks learned since owning the RX8 for 4 years... Don't care what people think - if the car needs it, the car gets it :o) But that's just me.
Ah, I see. I guess there's no need for me to step on the accelerator when I turn off the car while in rev. I do the same thing, 4500-5000 RPM, turn off the car, watch as the RPM drop besides the fact that I plant my feet into the accelerator.

Thanks for the info.

I pour sand into my intake so I can port-and-polish my internals. This prevents flooding too.

P.S. It makes a cool intake suction noise when punching it after turning off the car while in rev.
i bet tats just the sound of normal intake, u just only hear it when u do this because the engine stops exploding and you can actually hear the intake.

No offense, but shouldn't you learn about the car yourself instead of listening to the dealer? They are glorified salespeople anyway. At least I don't expect store clerks to teach me how my TV work, and I don't care how much they can repair of it :P It surprises me how little interest people have in an expensive possession. I have read a million things about this car and haven't even got it yet. People are different though.

I add Clay bar at every fill up so I can clean the internals and keep them silky smooth.

Service people told me that as well, said that "the car was not meant to be driven by grandmas" and needed to be rev'ed a lot. I don't do it unless I'm only moving my car around the driveway, otherwise its always warm from the drive. If you lived in a colder climate I could see this being a problem though. Good luck!

I rev it up to about 3-4k, let off throttle then at that same moment turn the car off.

good grief.

we were all newbies at some point. but, some of us know how to turn a page... or pop in the DVD- which btw also takes less than 10 min to watch.
I never got a DVD with my 06!

I think you guys need to note that if you are just revving your car like that, that you should have the clutch disengaged, it is bad for the transmission when you are revving it in neutral.

I've been hitting 6K or higher and then killing ignition as the rpm drop. It doesn't smell so good. Almost as if something is burning or has melted. Same thing happens when rev to redline 3 or 4 times in a row.

Those aren't always the same thing: when my car is in neutral the clutch is usually disengaged (for example, right before stopping at a red light I typically put the car in neutral, disengage the clutch, and then use the brakes to stop; I don't put the clutch in again until the light changes). So is it bad to rev in neutral, or bad to rev with the clutch engaged?

Bad to rev with the clutch engaged because then the transmission is connected to the engine and it is not made to do 9k in neutral.

Of course, you get that nasty electrical burn clutch smell anyways if you do it a couple of times anyways like user 24 described.

All this time I experimented with the rev before shutting down, even though the car is fully warmed up. Sorry, but it does nothing. Rx8 is much better off just twisting key in the ignition to off, if it is already warmed up. However, if the car is not really warmed up yet and for some reason you're late to work and must shut it down immediately, then 3000 for 10 seconds is the proper procedure to reduce the chance of floodz.

Once again the dealer employees have misunderstood rx8 treatment, in your situation.

I add a mini-key chain size Etch A Sketch® with every fill-up so I can get
a picture of the condition of my rotors and Apex seals.

I sprinkle black pepper right under the engine bay each time I park the car. Gets rid of the juju man. Which reminds me time to visit the spice store again!
