I was gonna start a new thread but I figured my question fits in here. From reading around here and the 7 forums, I understand that our rotyary engines take quite nicely to 87 or 89 octane gas. However, I bought my rx8 exactly one year ago and have been putting 93 octane in her since day one. Gas is getting quite pricey ( $3.07 for super) and I was considering filling her up tomorrow with regular gas instead of the super. Do you guys think this will affect my 8 negatively since ive had her on super for soooo long. Should I not risk it? Your input is appreciated. Didnt mean to thread hijack but my question is related to the topic.

this is so gay, our gas mileage sucks as it is, but to top it off we have to pay a **** load of money to fill her up, while the owner of the station is sitting down the street wanking it, getting rich off of us.... hopefully it subsides, or I'm gonna have to stop driving and start taking PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION!! AHHHH (oh not that theres anything wrong with it, just prefer driving my 8...
P.S.- I'm guessing having a Turbo Kit doesn't exactly help my mileage hahhaha

I work from home... but when I travel, I'll do 500-700 miles in 3 days or less. Gas is a tax write-off for me. Where I live in SoCal, gas has been above $3.29 for 91 octane for more than two weeks so don't come crying to me because your prices have snuck over the $3/gallon mark.
Yes, we get the gas out of the ground here in CA. Yes, we have a bunch of refineries right here. Yes, the CA state department of Public Fleecing takes a huge heap of taxes right off the top, ostensibly to pay for "highway improvements" in CA... If you've been to L.A. lately, you can see just how well that's working out for our freeways.
Gas is going to go higher. That is a fact. Treat it like a business expense, start your own home business, build clientele, then jack up the prices to meet your expenses. Oh, and feel sorry for people driving SUVs...

Now, I don't even know what detonation sounds like. Is it really a pinging sound? Anyways, I don't think I've heard it at all.

I've used 89 since I got the car in NOV and havn't had any engine problems of pinging/popping/anything of the sort.
Reasonably alternative to gas prices - a 50cc or less moped. No lisence required as it's almost the equivalent of riding a bike. my boss was looking for one the other day and found one that gets 120mpg. Now it's only got a 1.3 gallon tank, even still, only having to fill up twice a week for $3.xx each time isn't bad. With you gas bill say at 6.50 a week you are looking at a yearly gas bill of $325!!! Beats that Honda thing mentioned earlier. Although I wouldn't reccomend moped-ing it on really bad weather days. Oh, I forgot to mention the bike that he found got up to 50mph and only cost like $700. So in the first year you are looking at spending $1000 which includes buying it, and gas for the year which is still just half the price of gas for our 8's. You can use that grand you saved and just pimp out your 8 more and more!!! Man, I think I might do it too.

hey you guys, jus reading up on you guys complaining about the fuel price in the states and japan, we down here in australia are big car enthusiasts and fuel is a real bother for a lot of people here too.
I bought an rx8 not to long ago for my wife and the fuel that it chews through every week is more than my 800hp gtr,
most people down here know that sydney prices are rediculous, with fuel reaching $1.40AU which is about $1.04US per litre, which means we're paying the equivelant of $3.94US per gallon. And its still rising.
Most cars in australia only run on 95ron but every pump has 98ron and now just intreduced 100ron for performance cars which is what i use at $1.55AU converted its $4.35US per gallon.
So you guys should consider yourselves lucky to have cheaper prices for now.

This happens every Spring. On May1st, they have to change from winter formulas to summer formulas. There is a slight hickup in the distribution system that lasts for a month and then the prices start to go down again. I'm not saying that the US will see $2.00/gal prices again, but by the end of May they will be back down.
