Yea well as stated before, it comes down to the person.

Lazy with arthritis living in a city full of traffic? A/T

Everyone else? M/T

I live in NYC, i drive to manhattan sometimes as well. During rush hour on the FDR or the cross bronx... and i do not regret owning a manual. I would have it no other way.

Exactly how I feel. I can't imagine the traffic I deal with is quite as bad, but I spend at least 30 minutes in traffic (at a time) at least a few times a week. The most annoying thing about being in traffic with a manual car is being in traffic. I feel the same amount of frustration in an automatic as I do in a manual, except the automatic is less enjoyable once I get out of traffic. My new car even has a stiffer clutch than the RX-8 and it still doesn't bother me.

The only time I have been bothered by having a manual car is when I had a muscle cramping up in my leg every time I went to shift. That was amazingly frustrating.

RX8's have the lightest clutch Ive ever driven.
I dont see why using a clutch would make things more complicated.

Such silly peeps..................Why keep this thread alive? Some of us that own an AT would have it no other way while some of those that own the MT are hell bent on telling the AT user that they are in some way deranged.

Just let this thread die.

i agree... the control you have over your RPM's, and just the human to machine experience (as the machine is an extension of you) is partly missing when you go auto. You're left with break, gas, steering. When you want sporty, but go auto, its almost a contradiction. I do 90% city driving and love the workout Not to mention the 6 speed has almost 30 more hp and more rpm's to tear through.

No hate to auto owners though, it is easier for DD, just depends on what you like. I wonder how many auto owners don't know how to drive a stick and are just avoiding it. Learning was stressful for a few days.

That may be however, as far as cars in general... I used to own a Geo Metro with a manual transmission. THAT car has the lightest clutch ever!

The only time I have been bothered by having a manual car is when I had a muscle cramping up in my leg every time I went to shift. That was amazingly frustrating.

Everyone keeps going back to the stuck in traffic idea, but when I go to the big Texas cities, and the cars start that whip lash back and forth speed up to 60 mph, and then everyone brakes to 0 mph crap it can be unholy hell.

My 6 spd automatic has pretty good lockup so when you start moving forward after you just got out of it, it seems like it takes a few seconds to pick up speed, then if you jump back out of it, it's like the rotary has to clean out its fuel load, and takes a few seconds to unload.

Therefore, a clutch actually gives the control you need in rush hour so you have two feet controlling the car.

I need to develop the left foot braking method, but I'm real uncoordinated, so I become the guy that watches 20 cars ahead, and paces everyone.

I've had many wise commuters get it and follow behind me, but of course there's always THAT GUY that has to be in front so he can wear his brakes, not me.

I believe in equal opportunity hating, so here's more ammo for THOSE GUYS.

Well, I grew up in Houston and I live in San Antonio now. The only reason I'm leaving Dallas out is because I was way too young to drive when I lived there. I still can't say that I've experienced any traffic that made me regret having a manual, even for the particular situation.

I could MAYBE see wanting an automatic in a ridiculously hilly place with a lot of traffic. I'm not too bad at deal with hills, but I'm still always a little paranoid and unsure.

You were so quick to assume I was defending my 6 spd auto that your didn't read that I said: " A clutch actually gives the control needed in rush hour so that you have two feet to control the car".

While driving a manual in traffic does not bother me, evacuating for a hurricane is a nightmare, +10 hours of first gear sucks *****.

There is one distinct advantage that automatic has over manual. road head . possible in a manual but much easier in an automatic.

While I'd hate to leave the 8 in a hurricane I'd also hate to evacuate in it. Seems a gas shortage could present a problem.
