Smile Another noob

Hello all. I just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. I have been visiting the site for a couple months now and I just finally bought a used 2004 RX-8 last week.

First, let me say that this seems to be a great group of people with lots of great information. I just need more spare time to page through it all.

Anyway, I live in Arizona and I bought *ahem* a silver GT. So far I am really pleased with my purchase, it is a blast to drive (as most of you already know).

Hopefully I will be able to contribute some information in the future.

Chris....

Welcome to the forums. Yes, This seems to be a very good bunch of guys 'n gals here. Let me give you a few tips to keep them that way towards you.
1.If you have a question, hit the search button and see if it hasnt already been discussed.
2.Members on this board typically dont agree with street racing, so if you post on this subject, be prepared to hear about it.
3. Alot of members also seem to prefer the cleans lines of the 8, so questions about GT wings and other Fast and Furious mods may also get you flamed.

Other then this, enjoy your ride, IMHO, it is one of the best affordable cars available. :D

Thanks for the welcome.

I probably should have given a little more personal info. I am a few years past 30, I am NOT into the gaudy wings, etc., I do NOT street race, I take it to the track. I have raced motorcycles (roadracing) for a long time, so to me the street is just the way to get to the track. I have the GT package so I am very happy with how the car looks as is. I may look at some rims in the future, but am content with everything the way it is for now.

If I do look for rims, it would be to have a set for the street and a set with race rubber on it. I have yet to do any real car racing, but I am hoping to do some track days with this car in the future.

Also, I live in south Chandler.

Welcome to the club my friend
and don't worry about anything
anything you wanna ask, there's an answer
getting flamed is no problemo
it's all about getting flamed.
People here are nice and understanding enough, so even getting flamed could teach you a lot.
you can never find people like us in other forums.( those arrogant bastards...)
Is your car manual or automatic?

My car is a manual, what else would it be??? :D

Also, 1up5dn is significant to those who know motorcycles. Most people would know it as 1 down and 5 up, but racers do it differently!

Silver's the best color...

Because it gives the rest of us more data points for how the 8 behaves in a crash! :D

Welcome and enjoy!

Wellcum. Any pix? What is your car's history? Does it have the latest firmware? Any mods? Any dings or damage? (I'm curious because sometimes I think about getting a used one so as to get the nav system and appearance package.) Do you have a rotary emblem hanging from the mirror to ward off the silver curse?

Hard 8, I don't have any good pix at the moment. I have to travel for work for the month of January so I will be pretty lonesome for the car this month. So, hopefully next time I am home I can get some good digital pix and post a few.

As for the history, all I know is that it had one owner, it has all the latest updates, the previous owner did NOT know how to park the car so the right side wheels have been scuffed pretty good and there was some scratches on the rear quarter area but I was able to buff them out. The car had 19000 miles on it when I bought it and now it has just over 20k. It has the black leather interior, 6spd, 6 disc cd changer, power drivers seat, etc. It doesn't have a the Nav, but that was not an option I was looking for anyway.

Basically, if I would have built a new car from scratch, this is the exact option package I would have picked, color and all. I found the car posted on ebay by a dealer in Scottsdale and I waited until the auction ended and nobody met the reserve price. So, 3 weeks later I called and they still had the car and I went and bought it. (The story is quite a bit longer, but I will save everyone the boredom of the details).

The only change I plan on making in the very near future is to upgrade the battery to an Optima or the Odyssey.

Thanks again for the welcomes.

Chris....

Sounds righteous. Two thoughts on the wheels: I found a place in my area of California called Wheel Medic; they did a perfect (absolutely perfect) job taking out some small dings in one of mine. Also, the classifieds on this site often have cheap used OEM wheels.

Enjoy.
