TX Amp install at Fry's?

Tomorrow I'm probably going to take my 8 to Fry's so that they can wire up my Kicker amp/CVX10.

It's this one, tiny box and all:

Since I happen to love the use of my trunk and want the most kick its resting place will be the drivers-side back seat. Only one tiny girl was ever able to sit there anyway. And I'm planning on wrapping it in a thin black cloth so that it doesn't invite theft.

They quoted me $100. But I'd rather get it done at a big box place with a corporate office instead of just some shady manager who could tell me to go **** myself if they screw something up. Do any of you have experience with Fry's in this regard?

I once fried a delicious Hifonics amp back in High School so I'm terrified of doing it myself.

I'd rather have drunk monkey's work on my car then anyone at Fry's.. but the Fry's by me is pretty bad. I'd look around on local forums (all cars, not just the rx8club) to find the shop near you that comes the highest recommended.

How did you fry the amp? Just make sure you disconnect the battery when hooking everything up and you should be good.

Man .. reality in audio / video is TOTALLY opposite of what you described !!!!

The big box stores don't give a **** about you .... your just a # to their monthly quota.

Small guys actually NEED the business and will try harder to make you happy... so you come back.

Visit a few local shops and check out who is working there. - Look for shops w/ some experienced staff.

Not to say that your local frys might not have a good install crew.
But usually local is better.

Ohh and if anything serious happens to your ride even the smallest guy has to carry insurance.

Best thing to do is make sure you bring the car in spotless & all cleaned out.
Installers hate working on messy cars ... and if the car is messy it shows you don't care what happens to it.

I installed everything (4 ga wiring; amp; sub) in under 4 hours on a Saturday by myself. The 8 is fairly easy to run wiring through and is a good confidence booster when you finish. There are MANY threads about how to install in the DIY section. If you're ever stuck we're here willing to help (and you can save yourself $100)

Need help with wiring the amp and sub

Can I get a link to one of these threads explaining how the wiring should go? Im trying to fix a mistake me and my dad made when we basically threw it in there just to get it to work.

I already found how to get the wiring back there, but I dont know how to wire my aftermarket amp up so that my sub is only playing the lows (not sure how, but my sub plays the actual music through it in addition to the lows...)
