to all you Naysayers

I bought a new in January 04 6 sp Rx8. The drive train warranty runs out this year. Yesterday I decided to have an engine compression test done by the dealer. Compression tested out in Mazda specs. Ignition coils are original and are fine too. I have 47k on the engine. They checked the brakes and say I have more than 50% left on my brakes. I have always used 87 octane since new. Never premixed. Never had any ping or knock. I admit I tried 93 octane a few times and the car did perform better(more power and response).

This little rx8 has been a pleasure to own and drive. So far after 7+ years it still runs and pleases like when new. I have put zero money into it other than regular scheduled maintenance. By far the most dependable, least expensive to maintain ,
long term, new car I ever owned. I've owned about 8 new cars in my life. My insurance is even less than a 4 banger accord I owned in 94

My point is, My 04 6sp disproves every naysayer on this forum regarding year and maintenance on this vehicle. My 04 rules.

You are not proving anything. A car with that low milage should not have any problems.

You better knock on wood. Hell your car is never driven, of course you have not any issues.

I'm glad your car hasn't given you any trouble! It's not like an '04 can't be dependable. They just don't have that reputation. Not to mention, on a forum, you are going to get more negative feedback than positive, since people are going to post up problems.

It's always good to see threads like these, but if everybody did it... The forum would be totally filled!

I'd like to see a thread of long term owners who've had no problems.

82K Original Engine. Coils Plugs and Wires changed out at 16K Now running perfectly after 66K. Passed a compression test 8 months ago with minimum compression lost. Not even close enough to need a new engine. Running 5W-30 Castrol GTX Oil and Wix 10Micron Glass Oil Filters.

I have been working on building a custom replacement MOP Line kit, the oil injectors are running fine but I already have a new replacement set. Fuel injectors are running perfectly and the car has had 100LL fuel run in more than once now. (100 Octane Light Lead). I run 91 octane otherwise. About every 3rd tank is ethanol free. I have had not a single engine issue, coil problem, the spark plugs are clean, and the MAF does not act up.

How long have you had the car?

$105 for the dealer engine compression test. Chamber 1 was 101.2 chamber two 103.1. Mazda minimum spec is 98.6.

I'm not at all surprised. How many owners who share your experience even know this forum exists, let alone bother to come here to announce that to the world? That, my friends, is the biggest problem with the RX-8.
