air pump,please help!!

Hi guys!one of my friends has an 8 with 45k miles,192 ps,with new battery, sparks and coils.the problems are two:
1.the air pump is starting before turning on the engine, thing that is defenetly not normal! What could it be?
2.the car has a very jerky start when cold, allmost impossible!to start nedds over 10 cranks!
on hot engine the problem dissapears!!!air pump does not start before time, and engine fires up like new!what could it be?

1. Pretty sure the air pump starts before the engine to force air into the cat for better emissions on startup.... anyone verify this?

2. Gaps good on the new sparkplugs?

hi maz!in all othes cars the air pump starts immediatly after you fire up the engine,in this one air pump starts when you put ignition on,without starting.

Don't worry its for emissions only.

You need a new battery or to clean the connections and re-charge it.

If you have an '04 or '05, look into buying the upgraded starter if you don't have one already.
Does this sound familiar:

Also, the air pump will not run if the vehicle/cat is already warm.

What's the cranking AMPS ? CCA ?

Battery was updated to a larger size.

Still check the connections and look for a short due to corrision between the poles.

do you guys have a pic of the new starter? i bought my car used, and the previous owner doesn't know if the starter has been upgraded....on starts, it doesn't take too long, maybe a 2-3 seconds, but not as fast as the new starter in that video, lol

He mentions what to look for to see if you have the upgraded starter or not.
