Air Intake/Filter

I know a fair about cars and some about intakes but what I'm not sure of is which one to put in my stock 8. It's AT and I wanna get something that won't fail, gives alot of power and if possible looks cool . any opinions, and I'm not too worried about prices but if you know of a good one with a good price let me know pls! TIA

This matter have been discussed numerous times before. Air Intakes don't give you a lot of gains on this car. At most, if you're lucky, you get +4-5 horsepower gains with any intake.

Personally, I love the K&N V2 Intake.

air filters that let more air in the engine also let more dirt in the engine.

Depends on the climate. Some air is clean from dust and such.

Not to mention some air filters are more effective at keeping out dirt than others.

I have the Racing Beat unit & I really like it. But if you are looking for big gains. No non-forced induction part will give you what you are looking for. Racing Beat or AEM/Mazdaspeed units give you in the 6 hp range and like the engine itself the hp gains are in the upper rev range.

It's ok, I know it won't be a huge boost in horse poer I was only expecting 4-6. But I'm curious as to which intake would be best for a stock engine.

Racing Beat because it is closest to the OEM design, and has a real intake plenum instead of just an exposed cone filter and some pretty tubing.

Keep in mind that fudging with the intake can trigger check engine light and sudden power loss over 7k rpm because of the finicky VFAD vacuum system. But I believe a 2004 AT does not have a VFAD system so you're safe.

i was just reading up on the VFAD, and it looks like there could be some performance gains in removing that, then more air can get into the engine at lower speeds, cause it only opens at higher RPMS. What do you think?

4-6? your crazy. Our cars are designed very well, as is the factory intake, it's not a rsx a intake will NOT give you that much hp, maybe 1 at best

From what I've read, it looks like a 5hp gain with the intake and exhaust together. And again, only at high RPM's. I have the AEM and you can see it in my garage, but if you are leaving most of it stock, then go with the racing beat and make sure you get the air duct too.

Keep the stock intake. It's not worth throwing money at an aftermarket one.
