Aftermarket sunroof?

So, yeah... When I bought my baby they didn't have any 8's with sunroof, so I had to get the sport package! But I still want a sunroof!!! I called a local shop and they quoted an aftermarket sunroof for about $1200... Any opinions on whether to get it?

Check out the shop and the brand of sunroof very carefully.

There was a thread a year or two ago about someone who bought an RX-8 with an aftermarket sunroof from a dealer. Then learned that a structural member in the roof had been cut to accomodate it. That compromised the rollover integrity of the car. The dealer wound up buying the car back.

I'm 5'7... I'm really not concerned about the lack of room, but about the fitment and leak problems since the roof is not flat.

a sunroof will make your cars center of gravity higher which causes more body roll and less grip.....

I sell predominantly used cars for a living, most aftermarket sunroofs have problems. IMHO, I don't think its worth it. And I have a GT with a sunroof, its nice but not worth 1200 bones

I searched through the forums and found the thread you mentioned.

I never really thought of the fact that an aftermarket sunroof will compromise the safety of the car.
