Re winter use - as with ANY car equipped with high performance summer tires, an RX-8 on the OEM summer tires is useless and dangerous in winter conditions. NOTE, ANY car with performance summer tires will also be useless, even if it's an Audi with AWD, etc. Many of us have purchased a separate set of 17" wheels for winter tires (some people installed 18" winter tires on the OEM 18" wheels), and drove our RX-8s all winter long, with great results. With proper winter tires, the RX-8 does extremely well - it's well balanced, and the traction control and stability control systems help out as well. I actually prefer driving the RX-8 in winter to our Audi quattro. A few forum members did not believe the warnings posted here about the summer tires being dangerous on any amount of snow/ice, and either got stuck or worse, bent their cars.
There are quite a few extremely good threads about winter tires in the Tires and Wheels section of the forum - do a search for 'winter tires' in there for more info.
Regards,
Gordon
