About to buy a 2004 RX8. Engine issues still covered?

I found a beautiful black 2004 RX8. Love at first sight ANyways, I'm buying this from a retired man who is the original owner. I talked to him a bit and he told me that he doesn't remember any specific recall on the engine or ECU, but he may be able to get the information from Mazda. My question is, is the engine still covered even today? And does that still apply if sold to a second owner (me)? It has 29,000 miles.

Thanks for your help.

PS. Sorry if this has been asked a million times, tried the search but got overwhelmed with results. I am very new here.

Engine core warranty is 8 years 100K miles...as long as you have maintenance records for oil changes

Get the VIN from the guy and register it on www.mymazda.com for free; it should be able to tell you any outstanding recalls on the car.

mymazda.com does not reliably show recall status. It will show dealer service infomation if the dealer enters it, and randomly may or may not show recall info. Call a dealer or MNAO with the VIN to get definitive info on recall/special program status. They'll also have records of service done at Mazda dealers.

The important recalls/special programs to check for are 4206f and MSP16. Those included ECU flashes that directly addressed engine reliability.

The warranty goes with the car...automatically transfers to a new owner. As Dan said, the engine core warranty is 8 years. That starts from the date of original retail sale...which Mazda can tell you.

This is all that is listed:

There is a Recall or Special Service Program concerning:
RX-8 Clutch Pedal Warranty Extension To 8 Years/100,000 Miles

That's a new warranty extension on one part. Not even a recall or SSP. Other special items have popped up at random on that site.

But Mazda and all its dealers are plugged into a database with all the info on every car. Accessible by the service departments, not by the public.

Thats a red flag that this guy didn't take proper care of the car.

Cuz from 2004 till now (if its a really early 2004) there were 4 recalls to the car. Lower A Arm, Gas Tank heat shield, 420f flash, and MSP16 flash.
