6 speed reverse "clunk" help??

My 8 makes a clunk sound when in reverse. I put it in reverse, and if the clutch isn't all the way out it doesn't do it. When I release the clutch all the way I get a little "clunk" from what sounds like the front of the vehicle. Any ideas?

Trevor

You may to do a search on that... if I remember correctly, it's the ABS system setting itself. Normal "noise".

Its probably the ABS self test as above mentioned, i hear it every time i back out and it always sounds like i've clipped something with a fender :x

An easy way to test is to go forwards initially(back in next time you park) and you will hear it all the same as when you're backing out.. just a quick 'clunk' noise.

read the section of your manual about the ABS.

that may be it

Thanks for the replies. I read the section on ABS when I bought the car. I thought it said you would have some noise and "grinding" or something like that when you started the car.

What I am experiencing seems plausible with the ABS deal. I have ABS on other cars, but they are auto trannys, and the brakes do something funny when I start.

thanks,
Trevor

It's the ABS self-test clunk. Closing.
