New personal best.....

For the first time ever I was able to achieve over 300 miles on a single tank of gas. 304.9 miles to be more specific. I managed it during a trip from VA to SC (actually coming back to VA). It was only possible because I had open road and was able to stay in 6th gear the entire time. Everyday when I go to work I drive on the freeway but the thicker traffic here does not permit me to stay in 6th and sometimes even prevents me from using 6th at all. This is good for me especially since I will have to drive to Cali in a few months.

Once I get my baby (gotta keep saving) I'm really gonna miss the gas mileage I get with my current '93 Protege. 14.5 gallon tank, over 450+ mi highway. per tank.

It's worth it though for the 8!!!

I think if I try my 'save gas' driving style, I can hit 300mi per tank on an 8, I can't wait to see if I can do it. And of course I can't wait to open er up to see what she can do

The most I ever got on a tank was 211 miles with 13.25 gallons... that's about 16 miles to the gallon... But I drive mostly city, and not much highway...

Well, you won't be able to do both at the same time. But if you're doing the latter you probably won't miss the gas mileage!

The receipt from the place I refilled at after getting that mileage shows that I put 13.212 gallons back in the tank.

I actually remained between 70 and 90 (kept the 90 thing to a minimum) most of the time. A lot of it was done on cruise control set at about 5mph over the speed limits posted.

I'm heading from VA Beach to Erie, PA this weekend. A bit over 600 miles one way. Hopefully I get the same results......although I usually drive about 20 - 25 over the speed limit.......I'll post the results when I get back tuesday.

I forgot to mention that something that potentially helped is that I did not use the A/C and did not open the windows or roof. It wasn't the funnest of drives but it shows that with some sacrifice we can get somewhat sane gas mileage!

My trip ended up being longer than I thought. round trip, I drove 1800 miles (believe it or not, exactly) and I used 86.632 gallons of gas. That translates to about 20.8 mpg. That was hard driving, though. 1200 highway miles, average speed probably about 90, with several forays into the 120's. (see avatar :D ) The other 600 miles consisted of DC Beltway traffic, and many many windy country roads in BFE Pennsylvania. (My personal favorite, DAMN I LOVE THIS CAR'S HANDLING) Used the AC for about 200 highway miles, and honestly didn't see much of a noticible difference in mileage at that time. Got 300 miles per tank twice, and put 13.45 gallons in each time. A lot of fun driving, but I do have to say that I've bought gas 8 times in the past 7 days $$$$$$$$
