2300 miles, month old and Check Engine Light..

I bought my car just over a month ago and I currently have about 2300 miles on it. Today after a 50 mile cruise and a trip to Target, I get back to my car, start it up and the Check Engine Light comes on just after I started the car. I'm going to bring it to the dealer for an oil change tomorrow moring and have them check it out. Anyone else had Check Engine Light..and what was the problems you've had.

asking if anyone on this board has ever gotten a check engine light is like asking anyone if they get taxes......yes...a lot of people have gotten them.....it could be from as little as a sensor gone wrong to as big as a burnt coil.....let them hook up the computer and find out what code its giving off to descover the problem.

Or it could be the gas cap is not on tight. Make sure it clicks a good 3-4 times after you fill up.

Check that first.

Burned coil won't set a CEL.

Have them upgrade your PCM to the latest "M" flash, that fixed my CEL problems. There are TONS of posts about the M flash.

just as long as it's NOT your OIL LIGHT, then you should be ok.

BTW: if you get the oil light, PUT oil in NOW.

Well I called the dealer and they told me they won't be able to check it out until Monday. I started up my car today and the light wasn't on anymore. I did retighten the gas cap since I knew that might be a simple solution....I'll drive it later today and see if it comes back on..who knows.

Mine came on repeatedly beginning at 1700 miles. The computer kept thinking there was a problem in the EVAP system, when there was no problem, as verified by the dealer AND Mazda. A quick re-flash of the computer fixed it.
