From what I was told they made 500 manual and 500 auto. The guy at the dealer tried to sell it as one of 500 because it was a manual, I told him the ability to change gears as I please does not make it much different than the other 500 that were auto's.

Thanks guys for the input!
I have 3 small dents that I'm gonna need to drop about 300 into to get fixed coming up here but the car is well worth every penny I spent from what I can feel and have been hearing... Waiting on the 10 day inspection to go through so I can get the STS installed and in place. I love my 8 and I think I've found my keeper. :P

Interesting. For all of 2008, the 4 Mazda dealers up here that I went to had ONLY 40th AE 8s, that same exterior and 2-tone interior with the reddish brown. All of them manuals with the appearance package. Literally, the only other 8s were used. Several of them are still unsold. For a while I was thinking that all of the 08 models were 40th AE. Seems an odd balance then.

Does anyone know whether that was 1000 units produced in total, or for a specific geographic market? There were some appearance choices (all white) for a 40th Anniversary Edition in Japan and (maybe) the UK.
I managed to pick one up in October the day after the 40th Anniversary was reduced 10k (Canadian) in price. Drove the 09 as well. I didn't have a strong preference for one or the other, but I did strongly prefer to keep an extra 10k in my pocket.
End result, I just love it. Pics once the winters and steelies are off.

i like everything about the 40th except that i'm not exactly crazy about the exterior color. for a hot car like the rx-8, couldn't they have used metallic yellow or orange or something flashier? i know that gray is a popular color these days, but c'mon, it's not exactly a hot color for a sports car. other than that the 40th is beautiful. oh, yah- and they also should've done a 2-tone steering wheel.

I agree about the 2 tone steering wheel.
Also consider going with red interior lights. I put them in the door panels and puddles. Just a little really shows off the interior. They look nice. Just don't overdo it.

Congrats... I love my 40th had it since July. I'm always getting complements on the car everywhere I go. I wouldn't be able to drive the car if it wasn't an auto. So for that in grateful. No matter what its still a fun car regardless.. Good luck

The color is attractive as a "classier" car. It appeals to a broader audience than a bright orange.

After driving an automatic car for 5 years I couldn't see myself going back to the norm... I just don't feel I have enough control over the car with an automatic. You're at the mercy of the computer downshifting for you to pass. (You can tell I had tranny problems). As the popular saying goes, "If you want something done right, do it yourself.". I would be interested in driving an automatic though sometime just to see the difference... I think the paddle concept is cool. How quick is the response of the paddles? If it's anything like my father's autostick in his charger I'd have to shoot myself, even with a diablo tune his shifting just feels way too unnatural. Glad to hear you like it though. This will probably be my car for the next 5-7 years.. Heh...

I am a 40th Anniversary owner since I purchased a new one from the local dealer.
Merc and Audi driver usually but he dealer (next door to my Merc service centre) had a great deal for Christmas.
I notice the UK ones have different interiors and the spoiler on the rear has a centre post and has a limited number badge. I assume 400 were the number sold in UK.
Was wondering what upgrades on performance there are chipping or such??

Who really knows? I thought that there were only 1000 made ever but I don't see why I can still do a search and still find so many that are brand new and unsold. LOL. I think everyone wants the 09 RX8s for the diff changes that occurred under the hood... Wouldn't trade mine for an 09 any day.
Thanks for the welcome and your car is awesome looking. Did you have your car repainted white? I love that spoiler too BTW, where'd you get it?
Blasphemy! I love the wheels. I'm either or with the badge. It neither hurts anything or adds to the car for me. I do want that extra badge that shows the number like 172/400 thing that is in that dudes signature at least like under the hood or something. I'm planning on de-badging my car soon and swapping out the body to Mazdaspeed parts when I get my discount from mazdaspeed motorsports. I agree with you on the interior though. Makes the car look much more sophisticated and sexy, along with the exterior paint job as well. Only other color I would be interested in now would have to probably be copper red that I'm starting to see pictures popping up of.
