2 door coupe? would it then be a 2-seater? otherwise, why would they eliminate the suicide doors?

i hate when magazines etc truncate information to have mor e"flash". this is based on3 or so year old information that mazda was working on convertible and coupe variants on the PLATFORM. of course the vert turned into the new MX-5 and the 2 door coupe would be the Kabura concept or the car that makes it to production based on it. i hear there is one other car in the works on the platform but no specifics at all. could just be another concept. they've had that rumour up for a year or more. been discussed before of course

Very interesting pic dom. I was actually curious what the 8 would look like if a vert was ever offered...
I must say it looks better than i thought it would from that pic you've got. I'm pretty sure i'd still want a coupe, but it's an interesting idea, i think.

even so, the visual of what the 8 looks like without the top gives you the idea. I'm curious as to how much more stiffening that the chassis would have needed.Originally Posted by zoom44

betcha the suicide doors don't work on the one in the pic. Even with that fugly roll bar, I'd hate to get rear ended in that car - the back end would just fold up and in. Maybe that's what all the speakers are for, padding?
I don't "smell good".
I'd be pretty confident that the RX-8 chassis is stiff enough to go topless.
Also, that white RX-8 looks amazing with the top down. I'd buy one if it wasn't much heavier than the hard top assuming it actually went onto production.

I like convertibles but it just seems to ruin the unique looks of the car. It really needs it's top on.

Big question is would the convertible be a 2 or 4 seater? I could see the coupe as one.

I'd forgotten that our car is one of Car and Driver's 10 Best for all three years it's been on the market . Thanks for the reminder.
I like convertibles (love the wife's '01 Miata, and the '06 MX-5), but that chop job is hideous (so are Z-verts).
