Cool 20/30 oil BAD?!?!

Hey guys just wondering if 20/30 oil is bad for the 8. I went to get an oil change and the mechanic suggested putting it in. He said he drained the oil and their was about 2 quartz left in the engine! He said 20/30 is "heavier and thicker".

Is this gonna mess the car up??

There is no such thing as 20/30 oil. There's 5W20 oil or 5W30 oil, other common grades are 0W30, 10W30, 5W40, 10W40, 20W50 - but again, no such thing as 20/30.

You misunderstood what the mechanic was telling you.

Either find out what exactly was put in your car (I'd bet it's either 5W20 or 5W30), or trust that the mechanic knows more about oil than you do and don't worry about it!

Regards,
Gordon

From: Brunei. Do u know where tht is?
I can't seem to find 5W20 or 5W30 in my country...

The dealer just stuffed 5W20 at my first service which made my jaw drop...
The only grades available in my country are 20W50 (mineral), 10W40 (Semi-Syn) and 5W-40 (Fully-syn).. I am using 10W-40 at the moment... 10,000kms is coming up so i am deciding what to toss in. Should i be looking at 5/40 (full syn)?

As i understand the 20 or 30 or 40 is a temperature rating? If so, when making recommendations, please note that the country i live in is a tropical country with temps ranging from 20-30 degrees celsius all year round....

Out of the three choices 5-40 would be the closest....but then there is the whole "Synthetic oil thing"

I know...I'm asking for it

Your just going to have to read your manual and see what it states for your country. You did read it right? If the information you need is not there I would just try and call Mazda directly to find out your oil info.

My manual states anything with a API/SG/SH/SJ/SL or ILSAC GF-II/GF-III rating...... and shows a temperature range, etc.... Thus there is nothing lol....

The synthetic debate will really open up a can of worms.. lol

mazda already stuffed my car full of 20/50 so i'm not gonna trust me..

The local mazda dealership is really ****... I avoid going near that place unless i need a warranty on something.. So do the other 8's in my country.
