AT RX-8 Stalls when in Triptronic

Hey crew,
The situation with my 2004 AT RX-8 is that it stalls while driving in triptronic mode and coming to a complete stop without downshifting. Normally when the car comes to a stop it does its magic and downshifts to gear one. The car only does this stalling when the car has been pushed harder than normal. The dealer has an issue of replicating this issue because the car is not pushed that hard for that long when they drive it.

Has anyone had this issue with their RX-8s’ or have any ideas about what the issue could be. My next step is to drive the car to replicate the situation and drive to the dealer and get them in the car to see it happen.

I kinda had the same problem with my AT. The dealer kept telling me that there is nothing wrong because they couldn't replicate the problem. I got so sick and tired it that I decided to trade the car in and get another rx8 and let it be someone elses problem.( I know that sounds bad but I was fed up). Anyway the guy that does the appraisal test drove the car and by the grace of god the car started acting up for the first time with the dealer. They immediately took it into service. Anyway to make a long story short, they sent the pcm to california to get reflashed and it never did it again. But then again a month later I traded in the AT for a 6spd and never looked back. To my knowledge reflashing it fixed the problem because it rode perfectly until I traded.

Yeah, isn't it tiptronic? Where'd they get that name from anyways? I always call it a manumatic because it's like manual + automatic - al - auto. It makes perfect sense.

In over the two years I've owned my 04 AT, this issue has never happened to me. I would get it to the point where you can make the situation hapen and bring it down to the dealer so they experience the issue to to get it resolved.

you may even want to take a technician for a drive and show him how to recreate it...that way they can make sure they fixed it for you

Wow so you went to each website and found the names they use for their semi-automatics? Crazy.

This morning I drove the car down PCH and got it to replicate, I drove to cerritos and got a tech to drive with me and it happened while he was in the car. Now he hadn't a clue what was up or why or what the smell was that happens when the car stalls but Im leaving the car with them and letting them play around with it.

Also called Mazda NA to report and document the problem with them.

z00m-z00m:

Please keep us in the loop as to what Mazda finds as the issue with your AT.

Thanks!
