Nope. The laws of physics stop it from going faster.

I usually just wait for the beep. No reason to rev higher.

I thought the computer limited the car to 155mph...I know I've read that in more than one place.

there is no computer limit on the car exactly... the computer dictates a redline, when you reach that point in 6th gear, that is where the computer cuts it... but not because of the speed, but because of the rpm. If you take the car to a dyno you should reach 184 I believe it is.

1) Accelerate
2) Wait for audible tone "beep!"
3) Shift
4) Repeat

Not completing these four steps during each trip will result in carbon build up in the engine (= bad).

I love doing it late at night when the city streets are fairly empty. I can get from 0-40ish in first gear, hold it there for a moment, then just shift and keep going. It's really fun to take an exit ramp to the interstate, and hold it in 2nd gear until it tops out. You'll be going over 60. Redline in 3rd, I've only done once (on an exit ramp again), and that was a definite "oh ****!" moment when I saw 93 on the speedo! I was watching traffic and waiting for the beep, and had no idea what my speed was! My speeding days are long gone, so I'm glad I didn't get busted for something that really was unintentional.

So, 1st and 2nd are probably the two gears you'll want to use to get your beep on.

i've redlined 5th a couple times, 6th will never happen on the road, unless you happen to be driving through a vacuum. with the drag coefficient on this car and the size of the cross section you'd need about 400+whp to clear 175mph. Its exponentially worse from there on.

That's a normal reaction transitioning from a piston engine, but keep in mind that the tach reflects the drive shaft speed, the rotors themselves are actually only rotating at one third of that speed.

Periodic redlining helps ensure carbon burn off in the relatively low thermal mass rotary engine.

It ain't called a very high revvin' engine for nuthin'.

Yeah, instead of RPMs think EPMs....Explosions per minute, as each time the shaft rotates, that's when the combustion cycle hits.

*That is right, guys......right?

Not so sure

This motor saw 9K every day for 97K miles.
Does this look like its keeping the carbon out.

9K is unnecessary, just get it over 7K it will do the same thing.
The only place you will blow carbon out will be the exhaust ports and part of the rotor faces.

Only motors that never see more than 4-5K RPM will carbon lock or have more carbon than this.

I can't believe someone would have this car and _not_ have redlined it. I redline it like a hundred times a day...

sorry to displease you. I redlined it today for the first time. It felt so great that I redlined it again right after, both on 2nd gear.

I was wondering about that, is it really necessary to get all the way up to 9k RPM or will a lesser RPM accomplish the same task??

3. At least once on your drive, take the car up to redline when accelerating from a stop in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear.
4. Wipe the smile from your face.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 as often as you like.

What the hell dude. #4 is seriously bad information. And next to impossible by the way. That smile STAYS THERE!

Seriously, for MT, redline is: (redline being the rev limter where the fuel is cut out)
1st: 40-42
2nd: 60-63
3rd: 93 (bounced the rev limiter once)
4th: ~120 to 125
5th: ~140 to 145
6th: ~180mph (1k RPM = 20mph, so math works)

Actual aerodynamic top speed is around 160-168. I think there is a youtube video of a guy in Greece hitting 164 or 167 (his speedo is in kilometers per hour). Appearance package or other bodywork and lowering can alter this number from car to car.

So redlining it in 6th is only possible if the car is stationary, like on a dyno or something where aerodynamics isn't a factor. There is no where in the US where you can legally redline it in 3rd or higher on public streets, so 1st and 2nd are where it is at.

And yes, it is good for the engine....good for your health...and good for your soul.

And please, never let anyone tell you to 'wipe the smile off your face'

I'm surprised no one else here mentioned your motor lasted 97K miles!
