I'd keep the 8 as is, and buy a sportbike!

I would buy a used RX-8, with money saved get the mazsport turbo, a body kit, and some wheels.

You would forget that this is an RX-8 forum reading this thread.

10k is a drop in the bucket, I can afford to waste my money. People like me keep the economy going, people like you keep wal-mart going.

Light weight, balance, looks, nice interior...and add an LS1 and you will be finishing the package

Also, it may be a second thought...something you wanted after you bought the 8.

And it would make one hell of a sleeper

Im just wondering what you guys would do, you all probally know a hell of alot more about the car than I do.

I would buy a different car.

Once my son's project is done, I'll get a 928 to play hot rod with and keep my RX8 for a daily driver.

I'm a complete newbie on such issues but are there any mods out there that, when installed, do NOT invalidate the warranty?

Word. or just get a full coilovers, sways, subframe, nitrous wet kit, catback, mid with HF cat, RB flash, and some lightweight rims with some sticky rubber. Save the rest.

Just think this through. Forget the financial part of it. That serves no purpose in this thread. Think of the work involved, and the potential headaches involved. Reliability is gonna go right out the window. If that doesn't bother or effect you at all, then GO FOR IT.

However, It really doesn't make much sense to buy a brand new car like this and then void off the warranty and mod the crap out of it. You can go used, and take that big time extra $$$ and put it into more mods, and have an even better car for same amount. I tell ya what I'd do if I planned on spending the money you are gonna spend. I'd either buy a New RX8, and go at least 6 months to a year before modding, or I'd just go buy a new Vette. Heck, even after all your mods on this RX8, the Vette will still be considerably faster, and if you ever plan on selling your RX8, you're gonna lose all that money. Again, if you would take an RX8 over a Vette, and that doesn't bother you, then GO FOR IT. If the RX8 is your top car, and you got your sites set on it, then by all means, go for it.

Good luck, and SPEND AWAY. Life is too short. I know I do. (5 cars in the past 3 years: 04 RX8, 04 STI, 01 S2000, 06 S2000, 06 MS6.)

10k to spend, OK let's see, remember high HP is nothing without control.
You would be spending maybe a little over $5500 for a turbo from PTP-great potential.
about 1200 for a decent suspension set up IE shock, springs, struts, sways w/end-links
Another $1100for a new clutch and flywheel and short shifter
You'll also need to upgrade your brakes. Either big brake kit or just new rotors and better pads.
Sure you'll want wheels, but by now you don't have enough for light wheels and better rubber. sooo, I would do all of the above. Turbo, Suspension, Drive train, big brake kit, and the stickiest rubber on wider tires on OEM rims -'til you can save up enough for some BBS RG-R's- for the ultimate sleeper because that **** about and ls1 on the 8 is an abomination

a new rx-8 would be like 25,000, and 10,000 in mods, ok :

Buy a use RX-8 17,000, sell the renesis 3,500, so you are starting with 21,500 in mods

have Rick built a PPort 20b or CLR, thats about 10,000 for the engine 5,000 for the isntall and other parts (it will be better if you can intall the engine yourself ), get coil overs 1,500, sway bars 600? , wheels 2,000. Im doing this as soon as I finish my 20b fd

if you dont want a lot of work just go with mazsport and get the coil overs, and thats going to be 20,000 to 21,000

You know, the OEM setup stops the car in around 112 - 113 feet. What's wrong with waiting for it to wear out?

you can start by spending Negative $5k and getting the base model with sports package - that should help save a few hundred pounds, and make it faster than the touring your looking at.

thats $5k more towards mods

I know the 8 stops on a dime. I mention the big brake kit given the theoretical high HP on the engine. I think the stock set up would probably not hold up very well. Also, I know I don't like rusty rotors and dirty as hell wheels from brake dust.
Anyhow the OP could bypass such a mod a get the tires and wheels combo, either way rock on!
