Exclamation Good intentions and Plate-Warmers

With more than 35,000 members there are many different perspectives and ways of communicating. It's not unexpected that at times the language will be somewhat coarse. However, it gets frustrating when in the language gets vulgar. For example, the title of this thread.

As a husband and father of three daughters, I find the use of words such as "****" and similar to be very unacceptable, especially offensive, and degrading to the women in my life. Reviewing the forum's rules I see that there is a desire to maintain a "family friendly" site.

Forum rules 9 say, "If you are posting a new thread, do not use vulgarity in the title of the thread. Inside a thread, profanity will only be allowed if used in a controlled manner, and not directed at a particular forum member. Again, just try and be respectful of other forum members."

And #8, "The forum strives to maintain a welcoming and family type atmosphere for its members. Any attempts, overt or covert, to undermine this goal will not be tolerated."

I'm sorry if my "sensitivities" seem silly to all who might read them, but sometimes is easy to forget that others may not share the same ways of communicating as you do. I suspect there are other venues that you watch your language -- please try to do so here.

Again, I very much enjoy the Club website. Hope to keep on enjoying it for a very long time.

Thanx, kors-jan
While I believe your intent is sincere, and applaud you for voicing your opinion, I'm compelled to issue a rebuttal...

But first this: My cupholder gets incredibly hot, it's a front engine RWD car so some heat is to be expected. But the center console area seems to get significantly hotter on my 8 than any other car I've owned. I don't have any problems with my cabin overheating though. Maybe because it's a later model 8 and already has the amped up AC, but it was over 100 degrees here in MD last week and the AC cooled things down to an almost "frigid" temperature. The effectiveness of the AC (or lack thereof) was an issue for me before I decided to buy the car and so far have been pleasantly surprised by how well it works.

...Welcome to the internet. Welcome to the first amendment and one of the last environments (the web) where your right to freedom of speech and expression is completely protected and preserved, bar none.

It is up to the site moderators whether or not they chose to enforce the mission of the forum and, if so, how and when they chose to do it. As a public forum, one should reasonably expect to see language and ideas that one does not always agree with or like. However, that call is yours. Not ours.

If you feel that your life, and the life of your loved ones is negatively affected by the ideas and/or words (no matter how "vulgar" you view them to be) expressed by members of this site, then the onus is on you to either continue as a member of this particular community- or find another one that better represents your lifestyle. If that community does not exist, and you're so inclined, start your own. Moderate it, tweak it, and dictate the rules as you see fit.

-OR-

Be a responsible parent by educating and continuing to be involved with your family's activities so when they do come across vulgarities and inappropriate material, they understand the context and know how to respond (or not). As an alleged adult, I also assume you take the good with the bad and realize the knowledge, sense of community and fun you get from this forum far outweighs the benign and juvenile words of a few of its members.

And on a much more casual note...
Dude. I mean DUDE. Seriously. WHAT THE ****? You think the word "****" is an affront to the women in your life? Are you really serious or are you just using that as a crutch for your sermon? I *really* hope you're just using all available tactics and resources to make a point and you aren't actually deeply offended by such a benign and arcane 4-letter word. If you truly are so offended then I implore you to reevaluate your moral barometer and spend your time and exercise your writing skill in favor of far worthier cause.

I thought about it for awhile. Should I respond or leave it be?

The issue is not if you like or agree with what I said in my first post.

Nor is the issue that maybe, as some have suggested, I look elsewhere if I don’t’ like what I see here.

Nor is this a First Amendment issue.

The issue is all 35,000+ Club members when they registered checked the box indicating they would abide by the rules of this forum in any of the content they post.

In the end, we may not agree about all this, but we do agree that the RX8 is a great car. I’m off to read about wheels and then go for a drive. Take care, Kors-jan

PS. I apologize to the original poster, itsarmhxc, that his thread got hijacked by all this.

Lest you feel alone, I agree with your complaint. Personally, I use foul language a lot, and when I hear kids using it I tend to think it's kind of cute rather than offensive.

But the rule of keeping the thread subjects clean and at least being judicious within a post makes sense. And we all agreed to the rules. Glad to see the subject line was cleaned up.

Back to the OP's issue... I have an '06 Sport, MT, and I have no interior heat problem. Cupholders don't even get hot. In view of all the posts on this topic, that surprised me, but that's how mine is. Mazda must have fixed the problem.

There is a DIY on insulating the cup holders on the older 8s.

fun stuff. the cabin is hot, the AC gets turned on, the cabin is then relatively comfy. problem solved.

^^ I agree w/you opinion that the vulgarity is not necessary, but it's not every members job to make sure another member is not uncomfortable w/what they say, or how they say it. I def. understand you're concern w/the newbies cursing in the title, but as we can all now see, the mods will ALWAYS clean that up - but they don't spend every minute of their lives doing so, so it can take a bit.

Just accept the fact that the internet truly is for ****, and all the other stuff you can do on the web is a secondary function.

But g/l with your attempts. Hope you have lots of coffee.

Why are you still here?
I find my car very comfortable on long trips and I drive my car every day, even in winter. Go enjoy whatever you drive now.

Funny, but the longer I have mine (16 months now), the more I want to drive it… more.

I've had mine for almost a year (as my daily driver) yet I found that I drove more with this car in the 10 months I've had her than any of my previous cars. I have about 18000km's on her now. Before that amount was 2 years worth of mileage.

After nearly 4 years of ownership, I still find myself daydreaming about driving my '8 when I'm away from home.

I daydream about driving my car, but it's only a few weeks old so I suspect that's normal.

If I had your mods, those doors and a real-life experience with your avatar, I would do a *lot* of umm, dreaming.

My transmission tunnel gets pretty hot also, especially if I am idling along slowly in traffic.

I get the impression that a couple of the posters here are teens who recently learned 1) how to say "****", and 2) how to use their parents computer. They combine the two to get a rise from the grownups. One thing that they should learn (and some will never learn) is that using a lot of foul language makes them look like a lowlife.

It's kind of like the whiner threads about mileage, oil use, power, heat, etc... I think some of them just do it just to sit back and giggle at the replies.

put some dry ice in the center console or sell the car. Those are the ONLY two things that could help you

haha yeah, my friend was bragging about his beverage warmers on his new sebring... I have the same thing with no need for any buttons or extra wires. 8 wins again.

I do wish the A/C was colder but that's a very very minor inconvinience because if A/C was all that I cared about, I would have gotten a corolla.

speaking of A/C. Why is it that every American car I drive has better A/C then their Japanese counterparts. Am I the only one that's noticed this??
