you can always use the rx8 m3 350z same track time on topgear logic here, and from now on say rx8 is faster than the c6

obviously, the 8 is the fastest because of its 9501rpm redline......

Is the Vette driver just that much worse than the guy driving the 8?... or is it really that close on a twisty track?
LOL there are so many variables. How experienced are the drivers, what tires are they using, how are their suspensions set up, etc. I've passed many a "faster" car at the track that was being driven by a relative newcomer.

Edit: When I was growing up, I always thought of Corvettes as overpriced muscle cars for rich ********. But after running with them on the track, I'm much more impressed with them now - that they made a beast like that handle so well.

I think they WERE straight line rockets. Magazines seem to be saying the late models exhibit a markedly different handling character than its predecessors. It reads like it's quite an impressive piece of bang for your buck machinery.

The Corvette is much improved over the last 10 years.

They didn't show the end of the video when the old woman got out and used her walker and congratulated the 8 driver.

Yes, there is so much torque on the Vette that when you lose it...look out. It is a great car (Like our 8) but it is also dangerous especially in rain. I will NEVER push the Vette in rain or damp/leaves condition...

Are they speed limited for those classes?

It did look like the 8 was out for a Sunday drive.

The question if Steve Irwin was attached was almost funny.

At the end of the run, it's not the cars that compete or win, it's the drivers.

The 8's over-riding characteristics are that it's a car with not quite enough of some things (power mostly), but certainly just enough of everything else to make it a real pain in (on) the *** of a large number of other drivers with "better, faster, more exotic" vehicles at various times. Considering how easily the 8 is to handle on the track, and if other car's drivers aren't expert w/theirs vehicles, the 8 comes off pretty damn impressive, even if it gets trounced on any straight line speed run.

As bad as it may feel to be 'not quite fast enough', I'm guessing it must be worse to be nibbled at occassionaly by a freaking stock Mazda in your expensive track monster.

That's why there are various classes of drivers at DEs. Many times I (sort of) wish I was in a lower class (where there are lots more fancy cars usually) just so I could mix it up with some of the fancy cars running in novice and intermediate. Then I remember it's even more fun to mix it up with some of the fancy drivers in the advanced and adv intermediate classes. no matter what they drive.

not even close

I had an '02 Vette MT coupe. Absolutely loved it. Now have an RX-8 and love it. I got the RX-8 because it reminded me of the Vette driving experience but it is not better. Not even close IF you are talking all on performance driving.

"Everyday drag my butt to work driving" the 8 is a fun ride but the Vette still ate up the road. Yes, as V Vette said it is tender in the damp after you lose grip. But the key to good driving is that you do not lose the grip. Good drivers know their cars.

This is not a fair comparison in the end looking at the cars only. That video is a indication of the importance of the driver and really doesn't speak to the quality of the Vette.

Now back to having a blast in my 8!

Yes yes yes! You all should know that the RX-8 is quite possibly the best cost-to-performance value that you can find in the entire automotive industry, and goes across many fields like autocrossing, daily driving, hauling stuff around, and hauling ***. But also don't forget that that doesn't mean that the RX-8 is the best handling or the best performing car (with/without turbos blah blah blah). It's a fantastic value, but it's not the absolute best.

I would never call the RX-8 great bang for the buck. Great all arounder, but for similar money you can do much better if you're just looking for performance.

My last car was a c5 corvette. Now i have an 05 rx8. In one sentence. I miss the vette, but love the 8. The corvette was a monster, very fast and very stable, but the vette was harder to drive at it's limits. It didnt really give much warning of when it was going to lose traction, it just kinda did. Especially if you had a heavy foot. Vettes grip like mad, but in my opinion my rx-8 is a lot easier to drive fast. Boy do I miss the un-ending pull of 375 horses from a V8 though.
