04 8 vs 05 Vette...

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...67456543&q=rx8

Is the Vette driver just that much worse than the guy driving the 8?... or is it really that close on a twisty track?

Hightshoe 11-16-2006 04:33 PM

probably

Razz1 11-16-2006 04:36 PM

You have to know how to handle a Vette with all that power.

You can easily spin it out, and yes the RX-8 handles that good.

No comment on which is a bettr cornering car.

Razz1 11-16-2006 04:44 PM

Did you hear the instructor?

Give him room he's slow around here.

ZoomZoomH 11-16-2006 04:49 PM

that 8 has suspension mods, so it ought to carry more speed through a corner

ZoomZoomH 11-16-2006 04:49 PM

of course then you see the power difference on the back straight

V Vette 11-16-2006 05:19 PM

Having both (04 RX8 and 06 Vette), the 8 is a better OVerall car. It will out handle the Vette around tight corners but that is it. The Vette will suck my 8 in the exhaust and spit it out perfomance wise..

CarAndDriver 11-16-2006 05:22 PM

Super car + bad driver = bad driving in a super car

gh0st 11-16-2006 05:44 PM

stock to stock, the c5 out handles the 8 in almost every situation when pushed to the max. thing is, the 8 is easier to push then the c5 by leaps and bounds. also, the 8 feels fast. especially in short, side to side transitions. it feels like it carries a lot of speed into turns as well but many cars can match it in reality. especially a vette that weighs less, has more power/torque, a LOT more rubber, stiffer stock suspension, better stock tires, is lower, ... etc...

dont feel too bad, the 8 has better road feel :D:

voodooray 11-16-2006 05:47 PM

what I noticed was the driver of the 8 wasn't even pushing the car to it's limits in the corners. Hardly any correction on the steering, although that could be that he was taking the absolute perfect line each time. Also no idea how the vette was being driven. Still the 8 looked very smooth through the corners...very nice

Ike 11-16-2006 09:03 PM

These are both novice drivers and one of them is much worse than the other. Guess which one... With equal drivesr there's no way the RX-8 is keeping up with a C6 Vette. Hell, not even on an autox track is it happening.

Raptor2k 11-16-2006 09:08 PM

Both drivers look like they're going for a freaking walk

nycgps 11-16-2006 10:25 PM

Sad. If I am in that C6, I think I would kill myself.

Not saying 8 is bad but, its pretty obvious that the dude in C6 cant drive for shit.

But hey .... I was watching BM the other day and a STi smoke the Z06 like shit ..... vette sucks.

dynamho 11-16-2006 11:39 PM

Never driven a Corvette, but I recall reading that once it loses grip, it has a tendency to spin out quite easily. In other words, I'm inferring that it has great grip, but once it loses it, it requires above average skill to make the correction. Is this true V Vette? Have you pushed your Vette to the limit?

dmp 11-17-2006 12:06 AM

what the hell am I READING here? A properly (even average-skill driver) driven C6 will STOMP an RX8 on probably EVERY track...c'mon people...

That simply means the dude in the C6 just got his Licenses 2 days ago

I bet the corvette is new and after dishing out that kind of money he is playing it safe to learn the limits of the car.

Brettus 11-17-2006 09:33 AM

The 8 could have a turbonator fitted ?

MTLbroker 11-17-2006 10:37 AM

Guess the 8 is a much better car than people think. Much easier to drive fast than vette. Did you see how the vette got on the brakes early in the corners?

The equal driver argument is BS as there is no such thing as 2 drivers being identical. But given any 1 driver, I think that the handling characteristics of the 8 will make him seem that much better.

BTW, what was the third car on the road that was passed?

I don't think that you understand what the video means so let me fill you in. The Vette driver is not as good a driver as the rx-8 driver and that's it.

You can't compare the performance of two cars that are being driven by two novice drivers where one is obviously not as good as the other.

Example:

It's like putting me in a Carrera GT against Schumi in a kia sorento. Just because he beat me doesn't mean the Carrera GT is garbage.

DARKMAZ8 11-17-2006 11:43 AM

you all forget that the 8 has 9000rpms.....Exacty how much more power then the c6? I do not know but I'm sure the twisty calculator has all the answers.

gh0st 11-17-2006 12:36 PM

i cant believe this thread is still going.

stock vette>stock rx8 at the track

and there is a good chance that

stock vette>99% of turboed rx8 at the track too

get real people!

I understand perfectly. Here an alternative synopsis of the video:

Harder to drive vette fast. Easier to drive 8 fast. 'nuff said.

btw, carrera vs kia is a dumb example.
