That’s normal says the dealer

I keep getting that when I take my RX8 in for service. Just had the reflash done and among other things had them check out a whine/rattle that happens under light acceleration. Started happening maybe around 26k miles. Well of course the dealer says “that’s normal”. Just like my sand-in-a-blender sound that not every RX8 has is normal. So I’m going to have to wait until something falls off and will that be normal too?

Just annoyed. Anyone else have a rattle/whine sound under light acceleration? I can reproduce it best at 25-35mph in 3rd gear, very noticeable at times.

Do you have an aftermarket Air cleaner? (Intake). The AEM CAI and K&N makes and little whine/Whistle under slight accleration do the design of the part and the way air flows.

I would check your engine by the Intake box and make sure everything is tighting down. You just maybe have an loose bolt?

It's not normal

I have had my '06 Copper Red Shinka for 2 years and don't have so much as a squeak, let alone rattles.

sand-in-a-blender, or marbles in a can is predetonation. keep it up long enough and you'll blow your motor. make sure you are using 93 octane.

definitely take it to a new dealer and/or change octane and gas stations.

chevron has good gas.

Or it could be some air in your heater core. Detonation sets off CEL's, which was not mentioned by the OP.

I get a "BB's in a tupperware container" sound at high RPM's and WOT which is not effected by what gas I buy. Only thing I've ever read about the noise that makes any sense at all is having some air in the cooling system.

You aren't ever going to get a dealer to investigate rattles (at least under warranty). The labor is too much to pull the dash apart to put a piece of duct tape on a loose wire. There is however, an entire thread on rattle hunting in the DIY section.

Someone has mentioned that the marbles in a blender sound is due to the water pump cavitating (the pump pressurizes the water and makes bubbles form out of "nothing") this sound is very loud, cavitation is also very destructive to pumps. Air bubbles going thru your heater core will cause noise.

My car has a rattle like diesel valves at low rpms and according to the dealer mechanic it's due to one of the intake valves moving, and it's normal for certain cars, I know a few ppl here have that sound. Detonation, knocking or pinging sounds rather similar, but the sound should get louder as you increase the revs, my sound dies away after 4k rpm.

I'm used to the normal light whine from a manual transmission and this isn't it. Its much more noticeable outside the car than in. The sand in a blended is supposed to be the heater core. I've resigned myself to never getting rid of that.

This really sounds like something a tad loose that only vibrates at light acceleration. It's just annoying that everytime I go the dealer (two different ones) I get the "normal" answer. Not to mention that they have to confirm and order a new visor and I have to go back twice even though this is the second one. Hello I told you jt was broken just like the last time.

+1 on new dealer. This car is far more enjoyable when I serviced it at the Mazda dealer I worked for
