Thanks for your perspective. I'll remember this every time I struggle with fishing the dipstick back into the hole. Maybe I'll just "zooooom" instead of muttering.

Oh, if it's during the daytime and not starting to get dark I don't have a problem. I generally only have a problem when I check it at work in the parking garage since it is isn't very bright in there.

may I suggest that, too?

Seriously, I did not have any issue with what you brought out.

Not only do I need to use a flashlight, but I also put on a black glove for reaching down there. You're supposed to check the oil after you've driven it around for a while so some of the tubes and things around the dipstick are pretty hot.

i can live with the dipstick... how about the oil filter? a remote mount would be nice. I'm getting by by stuffing the whole area full of paper towels on every change...

Actually...this gives me a wonderful idea. Tomorrow, I'm going to start brainstorming locations on an oil light.

I dont mind the placement of the dipstick, though when the engine is even somewhat hot oi forget about it. The top of my dipstick has a yellow plastic grip handle so its easy to find usualy around dusk.. at night time forget it without a decent street light. I was surprised though there was no lamp in the car even my shytty 85' dodge aries station wagon had one lol.. but 'eh whateva I shall live.

Now I just have to wait for that annoying foam to come back and get a new dipstick which I found via a TsB search. I still wish to find the previous owner of my car and beat him senseless!

Ha, ha. My mom thought she was being funny and put an oven mit in my trunk so I could check my oil.

I don't have any foam and the location is ok, it's just impossible to read the damn dipstick since the oil is so thin and my oil never is very dirty.
