$500 price for 30K service?

The price I got from the dealer for the 30K service is $500. My wife has a Prius for which I was able to change engine and cabin filter and the 30K service cost me $50 because all I asked for was an oil change with 27 pt. inspection and tire rotation. Everything else on that car for 30K was just inspections.

I am told that the RX8 cannot be done "ala carte" because lots need to be done at 30K. What kind of price are you guys paying?

Really now?

Exactly what does the Mazda RX-8 need at the 30k mile mark that stands out on the list of expensive items that needs to be done?

Since I have no idea what year your car is, here's Mazda's list of items for an '06 RX-8:

Oil and Filter - Change
Drive Belt - Inspect
Air Filter - Check
Fuel Lines, hoses, connections - Check
Cooling System - Inspect
Brake system - Inspect
Steering Operation and linkages - Inspect
Front and rear suspension and ball joints - Inspect
Driveshaft dust boots - Inspect
All locks and hinges - Lubricate

Add in Replace manual transmission fluid, rear differential fluid, and brake fluid if your car falls under severe duty.

So, where's that $500 charge come from again?

They could be charging him for coils and plugs in that estimate. If so, that would be relatively cheap for dealership pricing.

I would change the spark plugs at 30k anyway... for the second or third time. lol.
That's the point in my previews reply.. without knowing what the dealership is doing it's really hard to say.

Mine was 400+ (but less than 500 don't remember exactly) and did include plugs, but not coils. Had to do those myself.

You need to get a list of the services in what they call the 30k service package.

These things are packaged to folks who bring in their cars to that specific dealer for their maintenance, so it's on their maintenance schedule, not the factory schedule.

Their reasoning is usually that they customize is for the locale.

They can do a number of procedures among which are any of the following:
* MAF cleaned
* TB cleaned
* Intake runner cleaned
* Rear diff oil changed
* Cabin filter replaced
* Motor oil/filter replaced
* Coolant replaced
* Brake fluid replaced
* Spark plugs replaced
* Coils replaced

It's much cheaper if you do it yourself.
