Na... Just a take back out highways campaign by highway patrol in Tennessee for the month of August.. We are assuming they will be around some during BOTD but we 8 drivers ALWAYS behave so we are not worried....

Has anyone been to The Dragon yet this year. I have a new motorcycle and so I have to take it there. (The one in my avatar was stolen last Dec.) I was wondering if Tennessee HP is still patrolling it like crazy.

April 4-6: Rain on Friday and Saturday kept many riders away, but the VWs and Crossfires were here enmasse. Sunday was clear and the roads finally dried by early afternoon. Heard of a few warnings being issued by BCSO. They will be here every day so ride/drive accordingly.
The State of Tennessee is spending more than $200,000 of taxpayer’s money to add overtime patrols at the Dragon this summer. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is receiving a $75,000 grant and the Blount County Sherriff Office is receiving $125,000. These grants will last through the summer and end on September 30, 2008.

^I guess that answers it. I will just have to take it easy again. There are other areas in N.C. that I think the roads are better and are rarely patrolled. It is just hard to replace the excitement of The Dragon and I HAVE to initiate my new bike on it.

Killboy.com has reported that the cops have thinned out significantly. He also said that they have been VERY reasonable with the traffic up there lately......no tickets just for the hell of it. You will definitely still have a blast when you go, especially if you go early morning. Also, MAKE SURE you map out a trip across the Cherohala Skyway.......it's a killer ride across the mountain ridges that every rider/driver should try! Have fun, ride safe!
