RX-FX Fender Vents
I'm interested in buying your vents, as the ones I got from Jay are garbage. After checking them out on your site I got concerned when I saw this in the description (in bold):
This set features the left and right RX-FX fender vents, which are injection-molded in a semi-gloss black ABS and include pre-installed aluminum screens. Simple installation -- just peel and stick! Photo instructions are included.
So, wait, are these stickers or what? I'm looking for an entire vent replacement that attach similar to the mazda ones that clip-on to the side of the fender. If it's just a sticker that lays on top of the stock vents - I'll pass.
Also, I understand that you say injection-molded ABS etc, which leads me to believe they're straight replacements and not something different. I apologize if my inquiry seems a little dumb. I want to make sure before I drop 119 on them. :D

Hi,
The RX-FX Fender Vents are not stickers. They are real vents that will replace your stock vents. You will need to remove your existing vents to install them. The RX-FX Fender Vents attach via double-sided 3M VHB tape, which is why we say "peel and stick" in the description. The idea we were trying to get across is that they're very easy to install.
Hope this answers your questions. If not, let me know!

Here's a link to the vents on our web site: http://www.rx8strakes.com/index.asp?...TS&Category=20
Here are pictures of the vents:
RX-FX Fender Vents - Aluminum or Black screens available
RX-FX Fender Vents - Satin Aluminum
RX-FX Fender Vents - Carbon Fiber Finish (Black or Gray)
The vents only need the supplied tape for installation and won't rattle around. We've had them installed on our production car for months without any problems.
Hope this helps!

do you think that tape is enough to keep it on the car indefinitely? rain, cold, heat, etc.
It's not a huge deal to reapply the tape, I just don't want my vent flying off my car in a year or so......

You won't have any problems. This 3M VBH tape is incredible. It's extremely, extremely strong.

yeah that tape will hold forever, that's what all auto makers use to apply anything from emblems to huge side moldings and rocker panels..example: those huge 12 inch moldings on the sides of a Cadillac escalade are all held on with that tape!! so no worries

I'm sorry, but unfortunately we do not have any pictures of installed vents without the screens.
I also apologize for the delay in replying (been playing catch up from the Thanksgiving holiday).

Now I have a question... What's the difference between the regular and the "Extreme Black" versions? Also, is there a matte or satin black finish available? I didn't see one so I'm guessing no... Just checking though.

Also, Do you have any better pictures, like a profile of the whole car. I have been on the fence about buying these for a while, the pictures just don't give the whole picture. Ive seen plenty of closeups on the vent, but I want to see how it changes the look of the car from ~6 feet away. I've been through 2 sets of your old chrome plated vents, but the finish kept peeling, so i went to black vents and clearcoated, and now they are starting to get worn also somehow. Any idea how these hold up?
So yea... pics and... difference between blacks? And then someone photoshop the vents to remove the screens so we can see that also. Thanks.

The Extreme Black is glossy. The regular version is more of a semi-gloss matte finish. The regular version would be closest to what you're asking about.
Here are a few pictures that customers have shared with us. Hopefully this helps give you a better idea of how they look from further away. :-)

Excellent. One more question (you can PM me if you'd rather): Are the regular finish vents "in stock"? If not, how long does it normally take?

I'm kinda replying to an old thread here, but since the product seems to still be available...
I'm interested in the carbon fiber intake vents. They seem to lay pretty flush with the body, unlike some that I've seen....is that correct?
The other question...what kind of "carbon fiber" finish are you using? Did you lay actual cf over your ABS vent, or what? I currently have some cf pillar overlays that are real cf so I would want the vents to have the same look. You can never tell from pictures with that stuff however...

Hi jds,
These RX-FX vents are not made of real carbon fiber. The finish has a carbon fiber look.
Here is a close-up photo of our Black Carbon Fiber finish vents:
Hope that helps answer your questions.

my point is, from far away, mine "look" flush. it's when you get up close you see it sticks out about 1/2 to a full inch. is the tape all the way around the vent? i ask b/c the last time i had them off, i don't remember there being a full lip on the car, around the whole area. so is your vent bigger, thus allowing more overlap to allow the tape? sorry to bead a dead horse here, but these are relatively expensive, i don't want to just buy it w/o knowing. seems the oem method of using clips is by far the best way, but no aftermarket vents have that that i know ow...

No problem. The vents do fit flush against the car. The tape is not applied all the way around the vent because it is not necessary. The OEM vent was digitally scanned to create the profile for our vent. We've also had good feedback from customers who have purchased this vent.
Thanks!

One of the pictures posted here is of a silver vent on a silver car, but I can't tell from the lighting...is that TItanium, or SUnlight Sliver? I like that look..it didn't look like a chrome finish, it looked like it would match the paint...not sure what color it is though.

I guess a better way to ask that is simply: How closely does the satin aluminum match Sunlight Silver in terms of the color? I know the finish will be different, but how about the color itself?

In our opinion, the Satin Aluminum vent matches pretty closely to Sunlight Silver. It does not have the little flakes in the paint.
