question.. What turbo are people using for their 3 rotor? I'm looking at a few, but i'm interested in something that doesn't take forever to spool up, I'd like to be in boost early. not really planning on pushing any more than 650 hp max out of the engine. What rpm do we see boost in current turbos. I'm basically making my turbo decision. gt35? Turbonetics t76? just curious on what people choose, when they are seeing boost, and how much they like it.

bump this thread like it owes me money. Any news stick? Think a GT35 is doable, but would choke higher up in the rev range.

A standard GT35R chokes on a 2 rotor. I would run the smaller GT4294R ( or the X) version T4 frame 1.0 with 4" exhaust. Probably see 1 bar around 3.5K rpms..

We also offer a GT40 compressor housing for them to make packaging a little easier..

I stand corrected. Would the compact housing (for the GTX42) have a negative effect on top end performance?

Not sure why you have the ign 5 and ign 6 "X" out as the 20b needs this for trailing 2 and 3 ignition. Here:

Diagram is of the Ps2000 from the rx7club forum Haltech section. I have a E11 also with my 20b and this diagram helped me.

Prove to me that a GT35R chokes on a two rotor. I sincerely doubt it.

I run GT35R (T3 hotside, 1.06) on streetported 20B and i dont feel any choke.....i find it perfect turbo for fast response (even with poor tuning) on budget 20B project....

That is choking for sure, pre turbine back-pressure past 5000rpms is probably near three times intake pressure. You may not really feel it in the lower gears especially since there is a wheel spin. Put it on a dyno you will see the torque curve drop off.

Even on a 2 rotor( should have clarified earlier 2 rotor Rx-7 engine).

Update: I ran the car last year for a few months because I just had to drive it.. otherwise I was pretty close to chucking it into the pacific. but it had a huge manifold leak, so I decided to redo the manifolds & cut the fiirewall to fit a stock upper intake manifold rather than a leaky custom one I had.

Firewall is made now. Interior is back in. Upper intake manifold is gutted. I have 9 1000cc injectors on xcessive lower intake manifold as shown. Wires are being tucked now which explains the clutter. and after fighting to keep the a/c compressor in a loosing battle, I just decided to yank it out along with the evap core & the blower. Just another 3 rotor swap which is going through constant revisions after revisions. price tag so far is about 90k of which about 70k was a waste. My story would be a good example of what not to do when doing a 3 rotor swap lol. btw, much special thanks to dznut, teamrx8, and many more that helped me along the way. it's finally done, alive, and I'm focusing more on making it prettier and faster now.

thanks! I will update with more pic and videos. I really had nothing too noteworthy to report lol. My AFR had been in the 15's with the leak whenever I hit the boost. once this build is done, I'll post some vids and pics.

idiot is an understatement. i love this car, but i hate it at the same time. it's very much like having a super hot gf who has some major psychotic issues.. when she works, i want to marry her, but normally, she's just an f'ing dead weight breaking my bank i spend most of my days dreaming about the days that she is actually working though. there's a funny article on rx7club.com that portrays the similar story. i think it rang true with most members including me.

i kinda know what you mean. Its like throwing $20 bills into a fire........
but sometimes when you are driving it, and the stars align --its irreplaceable. I will NEVER forget one late night drive on a particular low traffic interstate--it was like I was in a different world--the feel, the sound, the responsiveness-------ohhhhh wait--that wasnt the car that was a girl I remember in Bangkok

Haha! One drive for me nailed it. 2 years ago, by myself on a 2 hour drive through the mountains, actually really pushing on and working the gears. By the time I got out I actually ran around whooping and jumping it was sooo great.

is water pump from FD and the pump from RX8 interchangeable? I ask because I want to wrap the belt around the water pump pulley rather than FD stock belt position due to my modified alternator position. Thanks!

Nope it's a reverse drive. The FD i believe was the only one with that kind of setup.
