Here's pretty much my setup.
Maybe you can use it to compare to yours for measurements.
I kept(and modded) the renny front cover for two important reasons CAS and A/C locations and I know wouldn't have fitment issues doing that.
Coils even fit in the stock location too.

A nice compact setup, quite refreshing Steve. Appreciate the input on this project, and I hope it works and goes a long way for helping others as well. I think we can relatively resolve fitment. If you have the time to measure the distance from the edge of your block to the outside edge of the AC compressor please let me know. As seen in the pics below, mine is slightly less than 8in.

Additionally, the gilmer kit I have actually came with an accessory belt that is 96cm long, turns out it is a perfect fit. Minus painting, we are done people! Again, if anyone can help confirm the clearance in the bay, that would be splendid.

Turned out aight. Worried about the oil filler neck fitment. Turned out to be pretty sturdy to my surprise.

I hope you have enough room to get to a/c compressor in there.
Looks to be sitting further down and sticking out further(meaning closer to the drivers fender).
Also the steering shaft is in that area.
Just something to consider... I hoping it all clears.

Small update: My Rx8 is out and about again and boy did I miss it! Anyway I did some rough measurements and yeah, this will be close. The only item I am worried about is the steering shaft, which looks to be about 12in. away from the center of the center pulley, and the lower bolts are about 12in. from the center of the REW main pulley. One saving grace is that the AC compressor with the new bracket sits higher than the oem rx8 bracket. One more saving grave is that I can eliminate the 1/2in. spacer and just modify the plate a bit more to gain some clearance, however I would really like to avoid that.

Guess this will have to wait until install, but I am hopeful.

Quick side note, hoping to get my battery relocation to the trunk done this summer. Any areas I should be worried about drilling? Plan is to tuck it in one of the corners.

I used one of the existing holes in the trunk floor. They've got plastic covers in. The one I used is 9" out and slightly forward of the LHS suspension tower. Routing there is pretty easy.

Alright fam some technical questions as I am nearing 3/4th complete on the parts list.

1) I will be using an Adaptronic E440 Universal ECU, which I believe requires a Hall crank angle sensor. I am planning on using the following FFE kit: FD Trigger Hall | Full Function Engineering
Can anyone confirm this is the proper route to go? Will I be able to get the proper signal for the stock ECU, which I am retaining? I have pretty much no experience with ECU related items atm.

2) I don't have much experience regarding surge tank location either. I am hoping to design my fuel system for sanction racing down the road, meaning I will have to mount my surge tank behind a fire wall if I understand correctly. My initial thought was to mount it in the engine bay (I would only then have to plumb a return line to the fuel tank). Is there anything wrong with that approach? Alternate suggestions for a pump inside surge tank?

Thanks again guys,

The Adaptronic should use the stock RX-8 trigger.....No reason for it not too...that will solve the dash and other issues that need a shaft trigger signal

If you are thinking about racing you need to check the rules for whatever series you are going to race. Surge tanks are against the rules in a lot of them so you might not want to worry about that Put it in and if you decide to race figure t out then

I have a surge tank with a Bosch 044 in it...quiets the pump down a bit. I have it mounted in the center trunk...just behind the rear seat backs. if you want a fire barrier you would need to make something more substantial than the plastic trunk divider

Just a FYI...don't try and use a small racing type battery....PM me if you ant details

My major concern is that the PNP listed the oem mag sensor as compatible, but the E440 universal listed a 3 input sensor/hall. I'm not very versed in the lingo so I inquired with adaptronic two different ways, but no luck on a confirmation. Though if I do get firm confirmation, I'll let everyone know. I am hoping you are right as it saves some hassle.

I am thinking mostly about open track days and time attacks, but know knows where things will go.

The intank bosch 044 is exactly what my plan was. I removed my rear seats already so I am very glad to hear that plastic cover wouldn't be considered a firewall. As for the battery, I am using weld in nuts for an optima red top bracket. I am with you on not using the small racing batteries. I have trouble enough with the large ones! I will shoot you a pm, likely regarding all the plumbing when I do get around to building (likely 8 months from now(?)). Off the top of my head, confirming the size for the existing rx8 fuel hard lines would do wonders. Cant seem to dig up that information online.

The OEM fuel lines are 5/16...or equivalent to -5. I have used -6AN for mine and have had no problems with fueling 550HP through that. I used the OEM hardline for the return

There is some nice stuff coming out of Radium these days. They have used a bunch of it lately at the shop...check it out

That's excellent thanks for the info. I'll have to check Radium out. Also got confirmation from Adaptronic, the mag sensor will work!

I really appreciate the help.

My potato took some photos of the progress. Happy with how things are coming together so far, getting pretty far into the parts list as well (an estimated 6 to 7k left with all systems budgeted (hopefully)).

NOTE you will have to trim the FD water pump housing to fit AN fittings. No big deal, but something to watch out for. This is shown in one of the pictures below.

I am aiming to do the battery relocation and surge tank mounting this summer.

Very close yikes.

You can solve anything by cutting right?

I like the vent on your oil filler tube That's a good size.

You likely will need some heat shielding on the fuel line that is out by the lower intake manifold. I know in mine it gets damn hot there and the Ultralite line won't like the heat there. It's nice stuff to work with though.

Very nice build

Thanks guys. I have no idea how I'm going to route that huge line, but it will look fantastic. Good point about the heat shielding as well. My turbo (with coated hotside) will be mounted a bit lower (runners are sub 4 inches) and I am heat coating and wrapping the downpipe and turbo manifold. Hoping that will cover it, but more protection is certainly not worse (in most cases lol).

Just bought the surge tank and bosch 044 pump for intank. Might as well get surge tank nuts welded in at the same time as the battery plate nuts.

The potato is my phone which should be taking better pictures, but seems to be in a rebellious phase.

Got the S2 alternator painted and mounted to the FD block, success. FYI to do this, you have to trim the FD water pump housing where the through-bolt is, on the rear side. The s2 alt has a slightly smaller distance there.

The chrome paint is meh, flaked off a few parts already. Not too happy with it, but I think that nothing will hold up unless powder coated - finishing the build comes first at this point.

Not much left to buy besides motor internals, turbo kit, gauges, and boost controller; Any recommendations on a boost controller?

you're using adaptronic.... I thought you could use it in conjunction with a mac solenoid valve?

Doing a few minutes of research it looks like you are correct (I think?). I'm not very experience with this subject, any explanations provided are welcome as google mostly tells what each is but not necessarily the trade offs or how each works in conjunction with the ECU.

If I assume correctly, this MAC valve basically just sends info to the ECU and everything is done there with no fancy capability to change anything from within the cabin.

I'm not really familiar with the adaptronic. Just the little I've read. I'm thinking of switching to adaptronic on my future top mount build. I think the only way to switch boost on the fly inside the cabin would be to through your tuning device(i.e. laptop/tablet) if using the adaptronic to control boost.

i hate gauges right there. I guess it's best for line of sight and everything being in one general area. Keep it up. Ready to hear it run

Nice build mate. I will be doing the swap soon myself. Your thread has cleared a few questions I had in regards to REW front cover and RX8 aircon... Hope it fits for you, I'm in AUS so steering rack on the other side, turbo manifold is my big issue.

What are the main reasons people have opted to put the rx8 front cover on?

also one more question if anyone can shed some light for me, the OMP if I was looking to have the SOHN OMP can this be mounted elsewhere and the block blanked off? one this would save room for turbo manifold or piping. My initial thoughts are yes as you would be using a separate oil source, in doing this you should be able to keep the rx8 electronic one right? all that would be needed would be to make custom lines right...
