Scroll down on this link until you see the black RX8. It has a little information about it.

Thumbs up

Question is... are you doing the swap or is a shop doing it??

That effects the price significantly.

Depends on a lot of decisions.....if you have a decent engine...and just need to fab piping and a manifold....and make motor mounts...you could likely do it basically for about 8K...that's no labor...just parts

If you take it to a shop...for a basic build I would make it about 15K

lot of the auxiliary stuff will cost you a couple of grand....guages, boast controllers, ECU/tuning etc

You think you can do an LS swap for less than 8 grand? LOL.

you can get a used ls engine with trans, ecu, wiring for roughly 3000, then the kit to fit it in our cars is another 3k. So give or take, 7k. Which will be more powerful, more reliable, better fuel economy, and just a better engine then a REW swap

Good luck. Make sure you take lots of Pictures. ... and don't be surprised when you are on the high side of 10k and you still haven't got out all done. Radiator coolers gauges some way to run the dash something to run the engine steering rack. . The list goes on

How are you going to mount the diff? How are you going to run a standalone ECU into a CANbus system.

Not sure what it is lately, but every hillbilly with a 5.3 thinks they can just drop it into an 8. When the fact of the matter is not one LS swap to date has been under 20K.

I'm in the middle of learning this lesson right now… and I got a good deal on the donor car. I8yourv8, you are in for some serious sticker shock, even doing all the work yourself.

you guys are all about crapping in my cheerios. Ls1dotcom has a kit that comes with everything to get the factory gauges to work with the swap. Why cant I use the diff that the car has?

Flashpoint, how much would you say you have in parts and how much more do you need to finish?

You know, I thought the same thing - these guys all seem to be pretty pessimistic. The reality is, though, that they (and me, now, lol) have been through it. To be fair, much of my cost is labor, as there are just some things I can't do. Also, I work for a parts supplier, so I get stuff substantially cheaper than most people can. I'm about 4-5k in parts alone at this point, my cost. Retail, you're looking anywhere between 75%-200% MORE. Not to mention that I was able to buy a donor car (as opposed to just the motor, trans, ECU/wiring) for 1700 bucks, with 60k on the clock. A T56 6-speed trans will generally cost you 1500-2000 by itself, in my experience. I expect it will be about 110 hours to get it all put together, barring any issues. Even at my cost, I expect this to be over 13 grand. I don't have the breakdown of my costs in front of me at the moment, but I think 8k - on the road, gauges working and all - is a very tough sell.

well FML! lol. Ive seen engines and trans for 3k no problem. Its the rest of the parts and kit that'll kill me. Well maybe in a year when im ready to do something like this there will be a better how to and cheaper solutions. I love these cars, I really do. But I hate that its everything but quick. And im affraid to boost the renesis. idk

We just finished putting an LS3 into my 8 and I have to say I have never loved the car more. You'll have to forgive the pictures (they aren't great I just took them with my phone...) eventually I plan on putting all the build pics up in a thread just haven't gotten around to it yet...
