Who's leased their RX-8? Is this a good deal?
I'm looking for a very specific RX-8: 6MT, Titanium gray (with black cloth - non GT), and the sport package (dsc, xenon lights & fogs).
While I plan on doing a few 'minor' bolt-on mods, they'll be nothing outrageous like a turbo kit, and the car could be returned to stock by any shop in a couple hours.
As a result, I'm considering a 24 month lease for the 1st time, due to the low monthly payments and no committment at the end.
Mazda is currently offering the following lease deal on 6MT RX-8s and I wondered if people who've leased their RX-8's in prior months thought this deal was anything special?
2005 RX-8 6-Speed $299/Month, 24-Month Lease, $2,598 due at Lease Signing. Includes 1st Month’s Payment and Security Deposit. Excludes taxes, title and fees.*
* The Amount due at Lease Signing is higher in the following states: North Carolina ($2,993); Virginia ($2,993); and West Virginia ($3,010).
** Dealer participation required. Not all lessees will qualify for lowest payment through Mazda American Credit. Some payments higher, some lower based on residency and other factors. Not available for NY residents. Lessee responsible for excess wear and mileage over 24,000 at $0.15/mile. Total payments of $7,176. Purchase option at lease end for $16,187. Take new retail delivery from dealer stock by 5/31/05. See participating dealer for qualifications.
Thanks guys and gals!

That's a good starting point. The way I negotiated it was that I went back and forth via e-mail getting the salesman to lower the payments by a bit, and give me a figure for what I have to pay for "keys in hand", not what's due at lease signing. I had him roll the tax, title, DMV fees, down payment and whatever else they could think of into one number. Then I went in to testdrive a car and start the paperwork. There was no "security deposit", but I did have to put down a certain amount when we were doing the paperwork to order the car. I think I gave him $500 of that "keys in hand" figure. It was an '04 in October of '04('05's were about to start coming in), and we ended up at $244 a month and $3000 keys-in-hand. The optional final payment is around $17,500, or I turn it in.
The lady in the office that actually does all of the DMV stuff called me up and started trying to get me to pay DMV fees after everything was already written out. This is two days before I was supposed to pick the car up. It got to the point where I told her to have my deposit ready because I was coming over to get it. She said to hold on and had a little meeting with the salesman and he finally told her that's the deal we had made.
Then there's a list of dealer-installed stuff they don't offer until this point. For example, they wanted $150 to make the alarm go off if someone rocked the car. I felt that negotiations were over and deal had been struck, so I wasn't going to get sucked into making that out-of-pocket figure go a cent higher. I had planned right then to get a pager alarm and a Louisville Slugger but I haven't gotten to it, yet. Prolly better for her I didn't get the bat.

honestly, $2500 down and another $3000 in taxes title and fees? SO you need to plop down almost $6000 that you'll never see again for a car you only get to drive for 24 months?
Not a great deal if you ask me. I leased my car with ZERO down for 4 years. At least I feel like I can get more mileage out of my money that way.

After reading a few of the deals other owner have received, I guess the deal I got was pretty darn good. I'm leasing an '04 base MT with Sport Package for $274/month for 30 months. I paid $1500 out of pocket and am allowed 15K miles per year. I got my car last October. I noticed a $199/month deal in the paper and went to talk to that dealer. I received a written quote from them for a modified lease (15K/year instead of 12K). I then took that paperwork to my local dealer to inform them that I would be going w/ the other dealer. Well, they ended up essentially matching the first dealer's offer so I went w/ them. Earlier they had quoted me a $354/month deal through a bank (my final lease is thru Mazda American credit). Both dealers were able to knock the price down substantially with an assortment of rebates, etc., many of which weren't advertised. I guess the moral of my story is there are extra deals out there that aren't always made known to the consumer. Play one dealer against the other and insist on getting the best deal. My experience might be unique but I'm not complaining.

I have posted this before, and think I got a pretty good deal last August on my base 6MT model. The final deal after the $4250 in lease incentives I got was $309 a month for 24 months w/12k a year in mileage.I had to pay around $1200 up front which was 1st,security,acquisition fee,and plate fees. The payment includes sales tax of around $15 a month, and Excise tax(MA scam)of around $30 a month.I think I did pretty good especially for my first ever lease.I may have been able to do better, but I don't know. The dealer I was dealing with offered the car at the time at invoice which I thought was fair, and then after the incentives it brought the price down to $21xxx w/ a residual of $17680.The money factor is high at .00305,but the incentives are good, and at the time the money factor I got was the best mazda had available.

One extra tip: This isn't a time to be super private about your phone number and e-mail address. When you e-mail a dealer or walk onto the showroom floor and start running numbers with the salesperson, make sure they can contact you a week later after you've walked out on whatever they offered you. They will call back with some kind of better deal...if you've left them a way to contact you.

that was only offered in May so I think you missed it, and you had to pay extra for options
you're dreaming, most dealer sales people will not call back, they never called me when I walked in Apriland they had all my contact info, I went back in May and got the lease deal. I ran it on a lease vs purchase analysis program and it cost much less to lease for 2 yrs than to purchase for 2 yrs using those terms against super rates from my credit union on the purchase.
