Is there an option not to have chrome wheels?

The dealer gave me a final price on my 8 tonight and it came out to be 30,800 out the door. I thought it was a little steep and he told me that they put on chrome wheels on the car. I asked if he could take it off and put on the normal wheels and deduct the 900 for the chrome wheels. He said they look really good on the car and I should come down and take a second look. Then he said he had to go so I couldn't really get a good answer on switching out the wheels. Personally, I don't like the look of chrome, do they come with it when it is shipped in from Japan. Can I change them out to stock ones. Are the dealers just putting them on to make money off me? or does it come shipped in from Japan like that and I have to pay more to get them off?

Chrome wheels are not part of any option package. Obviously, they just try to make money off the buyer by putting them on. Tell them to take them off and put the original rims on.

Don't take no for an answer. The dealer is there to get YOU want YOU want, not the other way around.

I called the guy and told him to take the wheels off. He said fine and when I paid for the car, he charged me $65 to take them off.

Take a look at the Mazda RX-8 brochure for your country and you'll see that the standard wheels as supplied by Mazda are not chrmoed. QED: you were being offered a non standard car and there is no way you should be charged for the return of that car to standard specification. You should pursue this with Mazda and see how they feel about it. Dealers make a shedload of cash out of buyers so why do they always feel the need to play stupid games? Is it to relieve the boredom or just to conform to the stereotype?!

Yeah, what he said. The dealer ripped you off, tell them that you'll report their behaviour to Mazda USA and call the regional Mazda rep in case they don't reimburse you for this ridiculous charge.

Well, I'll email Mazda and see what they have to say but less likely they can do something about it. The guy that charged me 65 added it to the sales price of the car.

In that case, yes, you're SOL. You would only have a chance if the charge would be listed separately since you can not prove that the price you paid was not the price you agreed to.
