Sport vs. Touring ???

Sport vs. Touring ???
I'm well aware of the main differences between the Touring model and Grand Touring. You get keyless entry, LEATHER, power seat...
I was under the impression that if I got a touring, I those are the only real items I would NOT get.
If I drop down to a Sport model - I was under the impression that the suspension was NOT the same, and that the differential was NOT the LSD. Is that right nor not?
If I was going to get an RX8 and THEN change out suspension, like add coilovers, sways, etc... then maybe it wouldn't matter since that would all be upgraded shortly afterward.. but stuff like an LSD is more involved...
the sunroof is something I' dlike but if I could save a BUNDLE I could live w/out it.
what do I really LOSE OUT ON if I go with a sport???
my ultimate goal is the following:
weekend toy car. leather / keyless entry and all the foo foo stuff on a GT would be nice, but not necessary.
plan to upgrade suspension to shocks springs or coilovers and upgrade sways and add strut bars
I want a 6 speed manual, I like the stock 18" wheels. I will eventually add a body kit or the factory appearance package..whatever is cheaper/cost effective.
I want the newest car with the longest warranty I can get at the cheapest price. obviously. so if I were to skimp on "extras" and get a sport, maye I could find a smokin deal on a leftover 07??
or I can just look for a great deal on an 05 GT with the appearnce package on it already... I think I can get an 05 GT with the appearance package for around $16-18k if I shop hard. I've already found one local dealer that has an 05 GT with all the ptions including the appearance package and their starting ask price is $19999. how hard would it be to get them down to 18k? it only has 28k miles on it. not a bad deal for 17-18k. for a few grand I add suspension and exhaust mods. maybe a flywheel. downside is less warranty.
if I find an 07 sport....maybe I could get it for 20-21k and it's brand new. then add the same few grand in MS mods and I'd still have a warranty and a new car with 5/60k warranty. no sunroof, no leather, but one hell of a weekend toy.

ok, i'm replying to my own post...
I found a pdf here on rx8club that lists invoice for 2007 models. it looks like invoice on a sport is 24,458.
if i were to get 3500 off that, id' be at about $21k for a sport w/ 6 speed.
from scouring the mazda website it looks like a BASE sport would LOSE the 300wat Bose stereo, NO sunroof, and NO traction control and NO Xenons.
but you can ADD the traction control and Xenon/HID lights as a "performance package".
I want to say that the traction/stability control IS the Tochigi LSD or whateve they call it in the brochure.
accoridng to the pdf I found, the performance package on the sport is about $1000.
so *IF* you could find a 2007 sport still sitting on a lot, AND it had the performance package - you would have an invoice of around 25,500. minus the 3500 incentive, you'd be at 22500.
i kinda think it might be better to find a used 06 that has 15k miles and just run from dealer to dealer and private party to private party lowballing people until I find some person who is hard up enough to sell their car dirt cheap.
i know it pains you guys to hear it, especially those of you selling, but I STILL think a very nice low mileage 8 could be had for about 15k. not the fist one i bid on...but given that I have found about 25-30 cars within driving distance....ONE Of them will give it away.
i'll keep you posted.
my wife still thinks I should get the TL type s.

why have you made like 10 threads that are so similiar about not knowing what you want from an 8? Just consolidate them, noone is going to think any less of you for putting all your questions in one thread instead of making 10 individual topics.

Get the RX8, the TL is a nice car but seriously you won't regret the 8.
The warranty is 3/36K on the 07's. You might see if there are any 06's left. It is a bit late now but I found mine (new 06) in early November, still it is probably a long shot now in January.
Good luck!

Dude your Lost.
Lets start here... You can only buy the '07 you find. Stop talking about mythical '07's. They are all in existence already, find one you like, then ask questions.
All MT 8's have every performance option, with hte exclusion that Shinka's have different suspension bushings.

On a side note, how come you're so unyielding with anything but the rx-8? Is the handling that addictive?

i dont' know what it is about the 8. it's just fun.
i had a 79 RX7 back in high school and I loved that car. briefly had an 87 Turbo II in college. later a miata. all were fun cars.
the 8 kinda brings back memories of my old 7 - lots of fun, lots of revs..
it does handle nice too.

Just got my 07 sport mt new around SC, 21500 out the door, and its the best handling car i've ever driven.
All mt gets the sport tuned sus and lsd unless you get the AT, and the traction control and xenon etc comes with the added performance package...
There are a couple 07 leftovers if you look around dealers and they're more than willing to let it go. Other than the leather, sound, xenon luxury, the sport trim is pretty much the same, power and handling wise, although I would of liked the added DTC.
8 is the way to go.
