Missing manual

OK, just bought my 8.

Was from a Mazda dealership. Had a carfax report and detail of all maintenance history/ownership etc in a dealer provided booklet.

Took delivery of car though and no owner's manual or service history book with the car. Should I be worried? Whats the best source for an 05 owners manual? - the dealer is trying to get me one but says it's not unusual for them to be missing. I don't buy it.

Loving the car by the way!

hey widdbar, welcome!

go to www.mazdausa.com and register under owner. (have your VIN handy) Once you register, you can download a PDF version of the owner's manual. (which is easier then keeping the thign in your glovebox)

The owner's site also allows you to keep track of all your maintenance. Hope this helps

Did you go back and ask for the documents?

Yes - queried missing docs twice.

Dealer denies there should be a service history record book and keeps referring me to the document they provided which had a Carfax report and detail of service records on a printout only.

They also said it's not unusual to have no user manual with the car - they just go missing. I find this very surprising, particularly for this type of car which is owned by enthusiasts and where the manual is pretty informative just to operate correctly.

Remember, there are TONS of morons out there who does not know how to maintain
a car properly. They got it because *it looks cool to him/her*. then after a while when they neglect the car's basic maintenance and the car dies, they will say

"This car sucks !"

So Im really *not* surprise that the manual is missing from your car.

For most cars, the manual just sits in the glove box, often never touched. The 8's manual does not fit comfortably. It gets in, but lays diagonally and is pretty much in the way. So it gets stashed elsewhere, and has a higher chance of getting lost.

Mine lives in the trunk. But I use the pdf version much more than the printed one.

Fortunately Mazda is very good about online archiving .pdf formatted manuals.

Unlike Jeep, where I can't get a soft copy for my new Patriot.

I've worked at many a dealership. Many owners manuals are lost there, and that is after many are lost at the auction, and that is after many do not arrive there with them. Most used cars purchased at dealerships will have newly ordered manuals at least a good 50%.
