Places to Buy in Bay Area?
I am planning to get an 8 within the next month.
I was wondering if you all could share where is a good place to purchase one in the Bay Area.
If you don't mind could you also post how much you paid for yours too, so I know what range of numbers to aim for when talking with the saleperson.
Also, is there a certain time of month, day of the week and time of day that is ideal for negoitating when purchasing this car? I mean, do salepeople really have to fill a quota? If so, when is their deadline?
Thanks in advance!

Try emailing dealerships after doing a search on the mazda website. You get the fleet managers, and they don't give you any bull at all. For starters, you can hit Al Sanchez Auto in Gilroy, ask for Roy Lundy. He did wonders for me, searching hi and low for my 8, and when none came up the way I wanted, he ordered it for me. 4 months later, he still honored our original agreement. He's a great guy; I spent hours grilling him about the 8 and he didn't mind at all. Tell him James with the very specific red 8 sent you.

I bought my 8 from Oakland Mazda. I paid $27900 OTD for the 6-speed with sport package. Basically they are overstocked right now (about 18 cars in the lot) so they gave me a good deal.
As for time and day to buy the car..most people will tell you to wait until the end of the month or big holiday (labor day, independance day, christmax eve, etc) but I disagree. I think u could get a good deal if you go on weekday. And the reason is that..if the dealerships haven't make a sale all day, then they are more than likely to cut you a deal to earn something. My 2 cent.

Try Magnussen's Fremont, George Silveria Fleet Manager
(510)360-7126 ($300 to $500 over invoice)
I had to order one because I wanted the 6 speed GT package and nothing else, i.e., no aero add ons.
Mine has left the factory and is on its way.

I know some places have markups and some don't. Does that matter in terms of whom you talk to? Or as long as you go straight to the fleet manager, then it's all good?

Oaktree
Oaktree Mazda. That is where I got mine. Bought it at S-plan through my employer. Nordic Green w/black-chapparal GT with 6disc changer, spare tire kit, rotary accents for 32,000 OTD (about 29500 before tax/title). David Johnson is the Sales GM. He is a nice, no bullshit guy. John K. was the sales guy I worked with. Really nice too, but didn't know the RX8 that well. It didnt help that I knew every waking detail of the car. I really like Oaktree because of the service/parts department. Really good guys. Frankie, the parts manager, gave me a brand new RX8 book that talks about the history of the rotary and the entire RX8 design and R&D process. He is a big Miata guy.
I have been very happy with Oaktree.
Good luck!

I bought mine at Wood Mazda in Santa Rosa. Paid 500 over invoice. Steve is a nice no pressure salesman, but all the other guys look like lounge lizards.
All in all, I had a great experience there that focused on the "deal" instead of all the game playing that I have experienced elsewhere.
Do not go to Marin Mazda. Those guys were complete A-holes.
