Ordered a 2006...Nowhere to be found!

Well, heres the deal. I'm a young young driver. No exact ages will be given, but lets just say I recently got my license.

My intermediate license.

Moving on, my parents made a deal with me. It was one of those "Well we don't think you can do this so we'll promise something outrageous"

They said all A's and I can buy a Rx-8.

Few months later, I've got my all A's.

I went to the local Mazda dealership and looked at some cars. I can't get anything above base model because otherwise it costs too much. Anyway so as I was waiting for them to trade in for a base model black rx8, they told me that 2006 rx-8's were on the way.

Since 2006 rx-8's are pretty much the same price as 2005's, and since I was waiting anyway, we decided to order a 2006 rx8.

Three weeks later, still no word. Everytime I call and ask them where the cars are, they say they don't know.

Apparently they haven't landed in the US yet?

Is there ANY way for me to find out where these cars are, how long till they get here, etc?

I don't want to seem spoiled and obnoxious, but three weeks of looking at videos and pictures of this car has got me going insane about when mine will come.

Anybody have any idea when they are coming, etc.?

Well, having ordered my 06 months ago, I can say it is still several weeks out. Mine is supposed to be coming around spring break (I'll bet), so they say now. It's gotten a VIN and an "in production" status (been listed as such for over a week now). Mine was originally supposed to be here Jan. 27, then Feb. 17, then March 1, and now by the end of March. You'll have to just keep waiting. Especially if you started a brand new "from scratch" order. It'll be about 4-6 months, or at least that what MNAO told me it usually takes for "from scratch" orders on vehicles.

It's not that YOUR car is taking this long...it's that all the 06's are. They have a somewhat sophisticated production system, and a small number of assembly options, so they can complete "custom" config's pretty easily, and quickly!

If you custom order later in the year, after some 06's hit the lots, i'd imagine youd get a car pretty quickly....most of your wait time has been due to the fact they weren't even making the US spec rx8's yet.

When did the car go "In production"?

My dealer said it's status changed to "in production" on February 1. Before that I got an update from my dealer on Jan. 26 that told me on Jan. 25 my car was assigned to go into production for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4.

EDIT: My dealer didn't give me a weekly update this week (always updates me on Thursdays) so I emailed him and he said he had too busy with other inventory to update me but he would let me know on Monday since he is expecting to finish up on whatever it was he was doing by then.

Yep!!! That's supposed to be including mine, too, according to MNAO, since I got my answer from them first!!!!

They told me it would be approximately five more total weeks before I can can pick it up at my dealer, which includes approximately two to three weeks in port to clear customs and have the remaining options installed and about four days in transport and "getting ready" time at the dealership.

I see your's does not say "in production" on it, so I was wondering where you came up with a May 6 date for your car. Does that mean the date it is supposed to arrive at your dealer, start building, or what exactly?

I was wondering because they don't have an official/specific arrival date that they are giving me anymore. Just approximately "x" number of weeks, citing production scheduling changes, delays, trying to speed up production to catch up, et cetera, so that they can't do very well with estimating a time because they would most likely be way off. I can see that since they told me all the days it was supposed to have done stuff according to their schedule, leaving me with an arrival date of January 27 at my dealer initially, and then it has changed several times further back per them.

My dealership just tells me what the status has changed to and that it hasn't listed a further date. Same thing when I called MNAO. Just told me it's status and that it should be "x" number of weeks as that is the "usual" time frame on their vehicles.

You must have gotten one of the "changed specs" vehicles if your's is coming up that quick into building. Maybe you'll get your car a lot sooner!!!

"You must have gotten one of the "changed specs" vehicles "

booyah.

the dealer ordered an 06 for display purposes months ago, i was the first person at the dealer to request an 06, they went in and changed their request to the specs i wanted. it was originally a galaxy gray 6 speed with no options and a spoiler, i asked them for a black with sport and nav. i kno it takes 3 months from the day a vin is posted. i had a vin feb 3rd. so may 3rd is three months but i wont drive it home unless its a saturday. so may 6th is my own guess, and its a fair one i hope. i kno itll be the first 06 to that dealer, but i dont kno if itll be part of the first batch to the jersey port. the GM told me that feb 1st was the first day they build 2006's for US. and i had a vin 3 days later....so, um? yeah.

all i kno is that the day i get it im gonna be postin like a mad man searchin to see if i was the first to get an 06. bunny chick, if u got a vin i can give u an update on it every 6 seconds if u wanted me to

Every six seconds??? That's a little obsessive!!! I changed the specs on mine, too. My dealer had two pre-alottments, a Galaxy Gray and a Phantom Blue. They were able to change the Phantom Blue because they hadn't locked the specs for that one but the other one had. The specs on mine locked two days later, which meant it was supposed to be built soon, but of course it was pushed back again and again and again.

My dealer also told me Feb. week 1 was when they started building US 06 models, since that is what MNAO relayed to him, something to do with a problem getting it going Jan. week 1 like was posted a few weeks ago. All the October 1 and November 1 jobs were assigned to February 1, according to him, apparently since that is what his two did and was told to him. He said the later ones still have not posted build dates but he is expecting his December orders to get March dates. My dealer told me it may still take eight weeks for my car to get here even though MNAO says it shipped. I sure hope not!!!!! Of course if it does, it saves me from making car and insurance payments a little longer. If it arrives by April 10 I will be thrilled!!!! Still wishing I got it when MNAO originally said, though.

the only upside for me too. feb week 1 was the same thing i was told, in fact, i have a printout of my order request/ spec change sheet that says so. i was told 3 months after u get a vin and itll be here. by math, u could beat me by 2-3 weeks. let me kno how she runs.
