Looking to buy an 04 RX-8
Hi I didnt see an introduction sub forum, but hello my name is Jeremy, I am thinking of buying an 04 RX8 I have done some research with all the engine problems and people having to have theirs replaced. The one I am looking at has 110k miles. Which means im over the warranty period. This is from a Mazda dealer here in Cincinnati. Ive been test driving it over the weekend and so far i LOVE IT! ive never driven a rotary car before and i love the way it sounds! I know of the flooding problem i know the let the car warm up all the way before i shut it off. but what has me worried is the engine life..
Ive read reviews of the engine going at around 30k-60k miles. Symptoms included loss of power and stalling. This car has a smooth idle and it does not lack power. I have a list of what has been done/service records.. Could someone tell me if this has been maintained well? Or should i stay away from all 04 RX8s?
I hope to purchase and become an active member to these boards..
Heres what has been done, i hope you pros could shed some light and help a future owner out!
Thanks!!!

I wouldn't care what year it is; there's no point in buying a car that could die on you literally the day after you purchase it. Many 8 owners on this forum have gotten their engines well past 100k, however, that doesn't make up larger number of users that have had their engines give out on them before 100k. It being an '04 doesn't really help the situation.
You should really consider other options. I'm sure that you're under a strict budget like anyone interested in purchasing a car generally is, but if you can't afford an 8 without settling for one that's past 100k miles, perhaps you should wait a little while longer.

It all depends on the price you pay.
For what it is worth I'm still driving my 04 since I bought it in 2005. No big problems to date other than wear n tear of 5 years. I have the leaky tail light, replaced coils at 50k, oil in the air filter from the shop filling the oil too fast, broken slid clip on the center console etc. All of these are quick fixes and these forums are a great source of info.
From the service records there was a power loss issue in 2008, which could be as simple as sparks or more likely coils.
