Internet vs. Dealer
Well here's my dilemma. I live in the boonies of Nebraska, USA and want to shop online. Even though there's a dealer not 30 mins from me, I've tried and tried to shop online and it won't let me because it says no dealers within a 50 mile radius. I don't want to have to deal with haggling salesmen. I just want a quote that I can get online and just have them sell an 8 to me on the spot.
This is the first time buying a new car so I'm a newb on how things go. I've read and learned a lot though. I've been researching the 8 for a week straight. Got my credit score checked, its fair (had some problems a few years back), experimented with payment plans, even checked how much insurance would run me ($750 or so per 6 months).
The dealer that lives 25 miles from me has no website, no online rep, nothing. But he does have 3 RX-8s in the lot, none if which I want. How does it work when you build to order? When I tried to build one it didn't recognize the dealership I speak of. Must I drive to a big city with a more recognized dealer to pick it up?
I'm a 27yr old single male, about 35k salary but cheap living expenses.. 12.5k in bank, but still a pricey car for a guy like me. I'm really after the low invoice deals that keep reading about and it seems doing it online is the best way. Anyone have some ideas or tips for this dumbass? lol.
Thanks and great forum, had fun reading.

Well good news, I decided to go to the dealer closest to me. Under invoice from S-plan. Absolutely no haggle is nice. Got a lower price than I expected due to outdated invoice price on my part.
Got MT, sport, spare tire, floor mats, alarm, tit. grey :D
price should be mid-26k dest. included.

Sounds like you've got it made. I make 34k a year with nothing in the bank, but I'm saving up 7k before I buy one... which means I'll probably get an 05 same time next year, and hopefully they will be at Invoice like the 04s.

I had a similar dilemma... no Mazda dealer within 30 miles, the only two that were close, (50 & 65 miles), weren't all that easy to work with; one sells primarily Lincolns, (they really don't know anything about sports cars), the other were pushy, and wouldn't budge on price - "MSRP or go somewhere else."
So, off to the web I went. The only problem was that all the "Find-a-car-online" sites had distance restrictions based on zip codes. I kept ending up with the same two, and one other that I'd heard not-so-good things about. I got creative and entered a zip code for Denver, (120 miles from here), and got hits for five other dealerships plus two of the original three. I ended up with a dealership 250 miles away, (Colorado Springs), where I got not only the 8 I was looking for complete with all the goodies I wanted, except that I had to "settle" for a 6-CD player. The best part of the whole deal was the pricing. The one I got listed for 34.8k - everything except NAV, but I only paid 31.8. :D
They also delivered it to me at no additional charge. I checked back with them recently, they've limited their delivery radius to 150 miles.

Hey, that's good, I'm glad you got one you wanted. Me, I'm a home body and I'm not gonna drive no 250 miles! lol I'd rather order one fresh off the assembly line and have it delivered to closest dealer to me.
Hopefully the RX-8 will change the home body part of me into a nomadic!
