Is this a good price?

Hey all, I recently visited my local mazda dealer...and asked if they could locate a 2005 Red 6-speed RX8 with the GT Package and red/black interior. In the end...my price will be $27,500 out the door..tax/title/etc included. Is this a good price?

Yeah, looks like a good deal to me I have been getting quotes near 28500 for GT with spoiler and spare tire out the door. So, I'd say your getting 500 better than that

Best way to check if it's a good price or not is to just price the same car out on http://www.edmunds.com, http://www.carsdirect.com, or http://www.kbb.com. If it comes to be less than or close to invoice cost you can consider it a good deal on an '05.

Edit: In doing a quick run through on Edmunds the invoice would put you at $29,060. It looks like it might be a decent deal assuming it's a brand new car. Go get you one!

Yeah, I believe edmunds said $29,750 as the TMV. I believe I'm going to get this RX-8...I was so surprised by how the car handled (first time being in an 8)...and how nice the inside was. The materials didnt look/feel cheap at all. I just want to put a little more money in the bank so I have a nice 'cushion'. I'm putting $2,000 down and payments will be $477/mo...and insurance will be $270 for august...and after september my insurance will drop to $160 a month. I have one question though, my insurance agent asked if the RX8 was 'regular' or 'sport'...what is the GT?

The GT just means you get a bit more standard like DSC/TCS (traction control), nicer interior, etc. The motor is the same and it'll put you in the same insurance bracket as if you got the "base" model. Edmunds has the packages broken down for you. What you might want to remind them is that it's got 4 doors. $160/month seems rather pricey, but I'm past that high premium age, so what do I know? I'd shop around online to see what's available as far as insurance goes as well.

Let us know what you come up with!

As for insurance, right now i'm 20...at 21 it goes down to the $160...this is through state farms. So far, I have a discount for multi-car discount (my mom and dad have cars through them). I watched a 15 minute video and got a discount...and also I believe if I take out a life insurance policy ($12) a month, it drops to $140/mo. I'm still wondering though what he meant by "Is it a RX8 Sport, or regular RX8". I know on mazdas site theres the Auto 8 Sport...but the sport was more expensive by $15 a month...and thats the first i've saw an auto being more expensive?

Very weird indeed. I never had much luck with State Farm when I was that age. In fact they nearly dropped me after one accident in my '69 VW Beetle. Instead I paid more per year than the car was worth. Ugh. Good luck!

Thanks, I can't wait to get the 8...I finally got to hear that little whine of the rotors spinning...it was very cool. I'm STILL surprised on the quality of the interior. The salesman prolly thought I was wierd, but I was pushing on the various materials inside, and was surprised when I pressed on the dash, that it didnt give in like a basketball like other cars interiors, and when I put pressure on the ceiling, I was assuming it would 'crunch' and leave a small dent in the hard foam lining...to my surprised...nothing happened...it held its own.

That is an unbelievable deal. Who's your dealer? I am in the market for one too. The lowest I got quoted is invoice. How low below invoice is your dealer going? Please provide me this info. Thanks in advance...

Just as a word about the "sport" vs. "regular" I had a similar experience with State Farm. They asked my if it was the 4 Cyl. version, haha Anyhow, once you get a VIN (often available on the car dealers website in thier inventory section), then you can give that to State Farm and they'll know exactly what kind of car to classify it as. Maybe a sport 4 cyl. haha

The dealer is Miller Mazda in erie, PA. The reason i'm getting a good deal is because I get the gerber rebate, and and the S-PLAN through my dads work (Ford Partners).

You're doing even better than that if you're getting $27,500 out-the-door.

S-Plan on a GT is $28,800. Minus $1000 for MAC and $500 for Gerber and you're still at $27,300. Unless the tax-rate in PA is unbelievably low you're paying a lot less than $27,300.

Just to gauge that, the Taxes and Registration on that price in Texas would be $2100. So a deal for $27,300 would actually be $29,400 out-the-door.

Maybe your dealer is figuring your $2,000 downpayment into that $27,500 out-the-door price? Since that's the actual amount you'd be financing I guess that makes sense.

Sounds to me that you want to be careful with what you say. With it being a GT, I'd be extra careful and tell them that it is "not a sport," and let it go with that. How they interpret that may save you $15 a month. Just a thought. :D

I think the GT will save him money, becuase it has some extra safety features. In any case once he gives them the VIN they are going to know exactly what type of car it is.

Have you driven anything else besides the 8? Make sure you do so, I didn't and ended up regreting that decision.

Pkskull77, whys that? What would you have chosen over the 8? Personally, the reason I like the 8 is the interior...and exterior...any speed it has is an extra.
