Is this a good price?

Finally narrowed down my choice of cars after I saw a white 8 :D The dealer gave me a price of 26 (the lower model @ hamilton mazda, jersey) with nothing extra except a spoiler. I just wanted to know if everyone else was paying MSRP? I suck at haggling and want to drive off the dealership this weekend--- Is it decent price or should I try to get it for less? --Thanks in advance- Kate

If it's 2005, then I think 26k flat should be good. But make sure the dealer doesnt take advantage of you by APR rate, extra dealer charge bull crap or hidden charges. Demand the car for 26k then add tax, delivery charge and license fee and that's it.
Even if your credit sucks, demand a low APR or just walk out. :D

26k for a sport package on a 2005 is good. I'd not go for a base model though.

check out www.edmunds.com

You can do a 'price with options' and find out exactly what the invoice price is. Go from there.

You can also request dealer quotes through Edmunds. That's how I started with my 2005 8. First quote I got was for invoice and it went down from there once other dealers got involved.

If that is a 2004, it's way overpriced. I don't know what the deals are on the 2005's, but it still seems high, I guess because I got my new 2004 for about 26.5K and I got everything but navigation.

If you want a good price on a car, then get a Costco membership. It only costs $45 for the memberhship, and they have a really cool auto purchase program. Typically they make agreements with local dealers to only charge a certain amount above the invoice price. I got my RX-8 for less than $32000 when the MSRP was about $34500.

I paid invoice for my car w/o any special membership to anything.
I found out what invoice was, I told them that's what I wanted to pay and that's what they sold it to me for.
Most dealerships will do this now. There's no shortage of 8's and they're still making the dealer holding fee on the car (3%) anyway.

I'm actually pretty sure that Mazda is giving dealers $1000 on the cars now, so you should be able to get it below invoice for a purchase. You can get $2000 off if you lease. I wouldn't pay over invoice price for any car.

Bad advice unless you're simply not able to talk with a sales person.

You should be able to get the car at dealer's listed invoice price + $150 or so. Be sure to research any holdbacks, incentives, etc. which can also lower the price you pay.

The costco price tends to be around $300 over dealer invoice, but doesn't include any extra deals the dealership may have going.

I think you paid a lil over the invoice.

Dang, I didn't realize that you could get away with paying the invoice price. Very interesting. I'll remember that when I buy my next car. Thanks for the info everybody.
