Good deal or not?

Mods: I already posted on the for sale/wanted section but it seems not many people visit it, I'm hoping to get more opinions here in the Lounge. Thanks

HERE'S THE DEAL:

Ti Gray Blk/Chapp 6-speed with app pkg, rotary accents, gt package, navi, rear wing spoiler, 6cd-changer, moonroof wind deflector (yuck!). 870 miles on the clock. It was traded in a Honda dealership and they're asking $32995 for it.

The story behing the car is either BS or very interesting! Suposedly and older man bought it because he loved the looks but he didn't know much about the car. He was "overwhelmed" by the car's performance and became scared to drive it so he traded it in for a CIVIC!!!!!

Ok I tried negotiating the price, here are the details:

According to Edmunds.com
MSRP NEW = $35,209
Invoice NEW = $31,948

Now, with S-Plan the price is slightly above invoice lets say $32k

I told them I could get a new one with the same options for $32k and I was offering $27,000 as this is a previously titled and 900 miles used car for which the finance rate is going to be higher.

They said they can let it go for $29,000

I haven't replied back yet but I feel the need to negotiate more

What do you guys think?

$29k sounds good to me. I paid $33585 for mine with taxes and licensing. You would probably do better than I did.

Maybe they're really not willing to go any lower. Try getting something else out of them, like free Oil Changes for 36KMi or something like that.

IMO used cars are a bit harder to negotiate because you really don't know what they paid for it. They may have given the guy 25K for it when he traded it in, or they may have given him 28.5K for it, unless they're willing to tell you, there's no way to know.

29K seems like a decent price I guess, the real question at this point should be: Do you think you can find a better deal elsewhere?

Hard call. Good luck.

Moving this to dealership forum- you'll probably get more replies that are helpful there

I think $29k is actually pretty good for everything that you've listed. Just drive the car and make sure it feels okay.

I would beat them up on the price a little more.
Regarding the story on how they got the car I would have to call BS on that one.
My reason for that is one of my local mazda dealers has a loaded 8 with everything except nav. I asked them if it was a demo and they said a man bought it and after 2 months traded it for a mazda6. Sounded fishy at the time and hearing your story makes my think this is how the get rid of demo's that 8 fans are too smart to buy due to abuse.

Well, it's a Honda dealership they don't have Mazdas there that's why I wouldn't know if it's a demo or not.

UPDATE:

Tried for $28k, they won't lower it less than $29k. So I tried telling them I'm in no hurry to buy a car now and will eventually find a great deal later... I'm waiting for their reply, let's see what happens.

Do you think I should buy it at $29k? I could wait a few months and get a '05 model, or if the MSP comes out later this year as it's been rumored I could get that one instead. I don't know. I could also buy a nice FD for less than $20k and keep the P5 for a daily driver... I'm upside down on the trade anyhow.

Choices Choices!!
