I might lease an 8

AHHHH!!

I can't stand it, I need an RX8!!!

I drive an 03 Pro 5 manual and this RX8 is killing me. (former classic red 91 miata owner (my fav car I owned)

Somebody talk me out of going out and leasing one this summer.

Tell me if this is dumb, am I just rationalizing this?

I Currently pay 294/month on the p5 loaded with 0% APR, owned just 16 months.

It looks like I could get into a sports pack Rx8 for 400 or less/month with o down. I don't know how I'll stop myself if they tell me I could be driving an RX8 for 60 more bucks/month.

I do need to be concerned about $. I own a small business that is growing but you never know when it could tank (unlikely).

Is it reasonable to think that if I did lease an 8 that I could treat it like the protege but with oil checking regularly etc? In other words does the 8 feel like it actually costs much more to run than an ordinary new car, besides gas. Does the "hassle rate" feel much different than ordinary cars? I am aware of all issues with the car and have read the forum extensively. I just want a real world opinion or two.

Thanks guys, I'm 24 and scared of an 8 because it seems so much more expensive than a Protege 5. Even if my payment is just a little higher I'm worried that the car gods will strike me down for daring to buy such a vehicle at my age/income. Long stroy short, I could prob afford the slightly higher payment, I'm just wary...

Any rational response would be apprecieted, I have a horrible case of rx8 fever and it's eating my brain!

If you think it's going to be a rash decision, don't get the car. Always go into a major purchase/lease with a clear and calm mind... no matter how much you want it.

When you do lease.. consider what you are getting into. It's not just a "Hey, great I got my car.." There's so much into it. IF you think you can be in a mess with no money to support the car payments, I wouldn't go with the lease. It's not worth it to get into so much debt at such a young age... could literally screw up your future at 24.

Like you said.. you're scared to approach the lease right now.. so don't. Wait until you have a backup plan to pay the car... always have a backup plan.

Part of the reason I hate credit cards... I don't like owing people money. If it's NOT a necessary item I need, I'd wait until the situation is more stable... no fear, no second guessing. Never ever impulsively get a car.

My friend tried that with his NSX.. used, tried to make payments at 22 years old. He was working full-time... got laid off, they repossessed the car... lost about 12k. Just great...

You need to check the value of your existing Pro. I think it will be a mojor let down. Don't be surprised that you are several thousand dollars (as in 5) upside down. You will need to come up with this cash to get to the "8" payment you are looking at.
