First Time Buyer Purchasing Advice.
Hello everyone, this is my first post so please help! (no negative feedback)
I've been going on these forums daily for the past few weeks or so researching rx8's and have fallen completely in love with them... I am purely fascinated by the rotary engine.
I have been reading non-stop over every article I could find that broadens my maintenance knowledge of the vehicle and how to properly maintain it.
What drew me here was coming across one for sale privately by a local auto shop employee/mechanic that I am associates with. I might have the opportunity to purchase his 2004 Rx8 6-speed manual with 70k on it. Mazda JUST replaced the Reman engine 2 months ago. It's never been in an accident and I'm quite positive there's been no CAT converter failures or anything serious (coils, plugs, etc.) to my knowledge. But I am going today to check it out again with a list of questions to find out.
(I will get back to you all tonight with the results.)
Since we have gone to them for over 4 years and he's only the second owner I am aware that throughout the time he had it, it was babied and very well maintained. He will probably won't just sell it to whoever wants it, so I figured I'd start familiarizing myself with the info and haven't been able to stop since... I am obsessed with this vehicle haha
I've decided that it is greatly worth my interests and am seriously thinking about it, he wants $12,000 for it. which includes a set of snow tires with the rims (I live in Canada...) along with new brakes.
Here is a picture by the way for those that are wondering, I dig the grey... The interior is black and brown leather.

That seems rather high on price. I just picked up a 07 with 50k miles for only 12.5k. I know it has a new engine but still i would think the price would be closer to 7-8k for the car. The winter set probably cost you around 1k depending. Ive been pricing them out. Not looking forward to this winter >.<

dude thats too much. I have an 04 6MT in canada as well in immaculate condition with a brand new engine of 1 month, with a new ignition system all around and a header back mazdaspeed exhaust and Im only asking for 9k. You are overpaying for sure.
Look elsewhere and save a few thousand dollars. Its not cause you know the person that you should pay thousands more cause you "know" its in a good condition.

I HATE SPEEDBUMPS!
As others already said, the price seems kinda high, even though it has a reman engine that was just put in a couple of months ago, and the seller is throwing a set of winter tires with it. Anyway, all i could say is, if you could try to negotiate to lower the asking price some more, then its really up to you to decide if its worth it or not, good luck.

Thank you very much for the heads up everyone.
I thought it was a bit high myself at first too... and I've worked too hard for what I have now to just give it up, I'm not going to overpay.
Would you maybe suggest I try talking to him about it and possibly more around the 9-10k range??
p.s. thanks again this was my first post!

Voids warranties
I don't know about the price difference between US dollars and Canadian dollars, but you can get that car where I'm at for anywhere between $6k and $9k. The only thing it has going for it is the fact that you know the previous owner and a bit of history about it.
And chances are its a reman engine. I could be mistaken but im pretty sure Mazda hasn't made the series 1 engine brand new in several years.
